Commodore Hotel Cape Town
4 out of 5

Tucked away from the madness of the Waterfront, the Commodore is a little gem. Needs a bit of maintenance (as you can see more clearly while reclining by the pool) but if you're wanting something that's close to the action, but far enough removed at a price that's not completely ridiculous, this is it. Although do avoid the Tour Desk as they tend to book you on tours that don't exist or have been booked out for months. (As was the case with our sunset cruise booking!!)

We enjoyed several nights' stay here last November and for a city hoter was ideal as a comfortable base. We would come again.

I have stayed at this hotel twice - once in winter and once in mid-summer. On both occasions I fell in love with the hotel. It's located a short five-minute walk from the V&A waterfront complex, a popular (and pleasant) shopping and dining hub in Capetown. There are hotels in the heart of the V&A area which are more expensive. Why pay for these locations when this hotel offers everything at a better price and is no further away from the action. The hotel lobby bar has a cosy fireplace during Winter and a wonderful outdoor dining area for wnjoying drinks or breakfast in Summer. The staff are magnificant and are the best I've encountered in South Africa. They are professional and genuinely warm in their approach to customer service. My first stay saw me upgraded to a view with impressive views of the city's famous Table Mountain landmark.

The Commodore has good facilities and is in a good location for the V & A waterfront, if perhaps a little pricey.

Excellent location for Waterfront which suited me. Internet connection worked fine from room although you need to make sure you logout each time. Facilities are not 5 star but are fine. Staff very helpful. A bit expensive for the quality of room, but you are paying for proximity to Waterfront. Has character as an 'ex prison' building. Would certainly consider staying again if in Capetown.

The Commodore is a very nice hotel, in an excellent location, with super friendly staff..........but 5 stars I'm not too sure on that one.

Efficient, friendly staff in all areas of the hotel. Good location for the waterfront area of Cape Town, but standard double rooms quite small. Good breakfast, but very busy at 9.00am! Pool and gym adequate although as pool surrounded by the relatively high accomodation buildings, sun was lacking some of the time. Would recommend asking for a room away from the main road which is fairly busy and noisy. Worth booking the hotel Mercedes back to the airport - similar price to a local taxi.

All the staff exceeded excellence in all areas. They were very helpful, polite and much more. My husband and I will consider staying here again on our next visit to South Africa. This was our first visit and the staff made our visit so memorable we want to go back to spend a more time site seeing... a huge thank you to all the staff.
