Civic Center Inn San Francisco

This hotel features a rude and inattentive staff, cigarette burns on the bed and curtains, telephone numbers for anonymous hook-ups in the Bible, and the delicate smell of urine in the half-working elevator. Parking is available, if you can find it, at your own risk. The friendliest person we met at the hotel was a street-walker who was arranging her clothing in the elevator. This is a "no-tell motel" in the Tenderloin district, not the Civic Center. The "close walk" to the Civic Center is about a mile through a gang infested crack alley. The only stars in this place are the stars you'll see after getting mugged for drug money. We cut our losses and went elsewhere after one hour.

This place is terrible! No closet or dresser to put any clothes - not even a clothes bar to hang anything. Pillows were as flat as could be, elevator smelled like urine, would not go out at night in that neighborhood alone, only one really worn hand towel, no remote for the TV, well, you get the idea...I would recommend you take this establishment off your list of available hotels.

In a word: scary. The location is in a scary part of downtown. The elevator smelled like urine. Rooms were tiny with holes in the walls, beds hard, pillows like bricks, very noisy, walls thin so you can hear everyone else, toilet paper sitting on an old vanity in bathroom. No toilet paper holder, water damage in tiles, the free wireless internet was unuseable and pathetic, found an empty vodka bottle under the bed. Paid for three nights, walked away after one night with no refund. Do yourself a favor and not stay there:(

Stayed as part of a weekend trip to get my daughter settled in for an intensive dance program. We needed an economical place to stay. The staff at check-in was very friendly. Room was clean and about what I expected. Was surprised, though, that there was no place in the room for hanging up jackets or clothes. The spout in the bath tub was missing the valve to activate the shower.

I was very wary of staying here in the first place and once I arrived I found out my instincts were correct. The rooms were run down, there were cigarette burns in almost everything. I kept thinking if i should cut my loss and book someplace else. The staff was extremely rude, when asked for washcloths at 7pm the attendant asked why couldn't it wait until the morning. While there is parking, there isn't enough spots for everyone. I ended up getting a street cleaning ticket because I had to park on the street, so don't let the free parking fool you. The area is also very run down and full of homeless drug addicts.

0 Star rating. This hotel was terrible. The shower did not work, there were holes in the walls, and there was cockroach in the room. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Maybe if they lowered their price to $20 a night, but anymore is a ripoff.

Pretty good location, within walking distance of some great restaurants, but the area is pretty shady and there are a LOT of bums situated around the hotel. It is best to get parking in the front of the hotel b/c the back parking lot is shared with a bunch of bums and we didnt trust them so we always made sure to try and get a space in the front. The stairwells reak of urine and the building itself is very rundown looking. There are people yelling in the parking lot at all hours of the night and our hotel room itself was't all that great. The shower curtain smelled like urine, the towels (although washed) had brown and/or black stains on them and the blanket is made out of very cheap material and made my skin itch at night. My family and I really tried to make the best out of our experience, but honestly, well probably fork out a little bit more for a nicer hotel next time.

The hotel is in a area that is called tenderloin district( bums and tranny prostitution). The place looks pretty good from the exterior. Inside they seem to look ok also for the price. The bad part there is alot of noise outside the building, at points I would here banging from the third floor.

Fresh paint with new bathroom fixtures. Very loud due to proximity to street. Free parking but hard to get spots in front so you have to park in back which is kind of shady (no foot traffic). A decent stay for the money. Not the best area but good if you just need a place to sleep.

Great location for event at SF Civic Center, easy 4 block walk. Free off street parking was a real bonus. Would stay there again if opportunity arises.

Good value, large clean room, huge bed, only 10 mins from union square. The negative side was the streets surrounding it were full of undesirable characters which made early mornings and late nights an uncomfortable walk home. The reception staff not exactly the most cheery of charactors.
