I have now stayed at this hotel 4 times over 3 years and rate it very highly for overall management, facilities and, especially, food (with a number of very good specialist restaurants, particularly Lagoon (fish) and Echo (Italian)

I have stayed at several hotels in Colombo and I consider this hotel to be the best in the city.

This hotel adjoins a shopping mall which we found useful for bits and pieces - the shops range from upmarket jewellers shops to a full blown supermarket. The lobby is very impressive and has a fantastic atrium adjoining that is used for private functions and wedding receptions. There is a nice piano bar on the ground floor, although drinks are a little pricey. One word of warning - there is building work going on next to the hotel and the first room we were allocated was very scruffy and overlooked what was a very ugly building site. However, we were moved to an upper floor where the room was much better. Staff are very attentive and the standard of cuisine in the hotel is quite acceptable. There is a fish restaurant which is reputed to be the best in Colombo. We ate there a couple of times and it was excellent, although not cheap by local standards. You also have the use of the pool and spa facilities at the building next door which is much nicer than the hotel's own pool.

OK for a one night stay. Central but the hotel has no personality and is your typical concrete block in a third world city. Fine for a stop over.

When we chccked into the Cinnamon Grand we were given a smoking room which had obviously been recently vacated by a heavy smoker. The hotel was quick to rectify this with an upgraded room in the new wing. All staff were consistently helpful and polite and made our brief stay thoroughly enjoyable. The huge lobby is the perfect place for people watching (especially during the wedding season).
