The city of Shantou is blessed with mild weather and abundant sunshine. The average temperature per year is around 22°C (72°F). In July and August, the weather heats up, so visitors tend to wait until fall, winter and spring to visit. As for winter in Shantou, the temperatures are mostly warm and great for outdoor activities. Before arrival, be sure to bring plenty of spring and summer clothes. From April through September, rain is prevalent, and visitors should have an umbrella handy.

Getting There
By air, visitors can fly into the Shantou Airport, which is located in Waisha Town, 8 miles (13km) to the northeast of downtown Shantou. This modern airport sees flights to and from Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and many other cities in China via 14 domestic airlines, as well as an international flight to Bangkok.
By rail, the Shantou Railway Station is a very important transport center in the Guangdong Province. Trains from the station will take passengers from Shantou to many cities like Guangzhou, Jiujiang, Shenzhen and Nanchang.
Ferries are very convenient in Shantou. They will take visitors to and from many attractions, nearby islands, and counties in Shantou. There are numerous ports like Xidi Port and Guangchang Port, which offer short cruises around the area. At the Guangchang Port, tourists can take special night cruises in the summer.
