The Bund

The heyday of The Bund dates back to a romantic, nostalgic era in Shanghai's history, when the city was the “Paris of the East”. The Huangpu River area was a premier hub of finance, commerce and trade in Asia and as a result, a wealthy domain of foreign power. As a result, the architectural legacy of The Bund is conspicuously European in nature. Notable landmarks include the Shanghai Club, Union Building, HSBC Building, Customs House and North China Daily News Building. The most famous attraction on The Bund however, is the Peace Hotel, which has two distinct sections in the Palace Hotel and Sassoon House.
Vitals and Tips
Built in 1929 for business and real estate magnate Sir Victor Sassoon, the Sassoon House was once home to the eminent Cathay Hotel. The landmark has a popular rooftop restaurant and jazz bar, with spectacular views of Pudong.
The Bund is accessible by Shanghai Metro Line 2.
