Jade Buddha Temple is one of the most conspicuous holy monuments in the city. The “modern” temple, at least in comparison to other shrines throughout the country, dates back to the late 19th century and contains several vital chambers, halls and Mahayana Buddhist art. Some of the most notable aspects of the temple include the Chamber of the Four Heavenly Kings, Jade Buddha Chamber and sculptures of the Three Golden Buddhas. The temple’s collection of precious relics makes it a worthwhile attraction in dynamic Shanghai.
