There is a wintry wonderland called Harbin that is situated in the northeastern region of China. With its exotic buildings like the Dragon Tower, and wonderful events like their famous Harbin International Snow and Ice Festival, this ‘Ice City’ attracts visitors from home and abroad. Harbin lies on the eastern side of the Songnen Plain and is the capital of Heilongjiang Province. Visitors will love this city not just during winter, but also throughout the year with places like Zhaolin Park and Sun Island to explore.
Tourists will feel as if they have been transported to Moscow when visiting the buildings in the city. Baroque or Byzantine style architecture is best captured with St. Sofia Orthodox Church and the Zhongyang Dajie, which exudes a Russian feel. For those who visit in the winter, the Yabuli International Ski Resort promises to please skiers, and it is only 2.5 hours from the city by train. A great way to see the beauty of Harbin is by walking through the streets or taking a gondola ride on the Songhua River. When To Go
Harbin has distinct seasons that yield long, cold winters and short, cool summers. During the winter, Harbin can get extremely cold, whereas in summer is mildly warm. The city can be visited almost anytime, but during the months of July to September, and December to January, visitors flock to Harbin. Summertime brings rain during June through August, which tends to cool the city down. Winter feels like a wonderland in this ‘Ice City’, and tourists should be prepared with warm clothing when visiting.

Getting There
Located about 33km (20.5 miles) northwest of Harbin, the Harbin Airport, also known as Harbin Taiping International Airport, is the second largest airport in the northeastern region of China. Over 50 international and domestic flights are served through this airport each day.
By rail, Harbin has two train stations, the Harbin Railway Station and the Harbin Eastern Railway. The Harbin Railway station, formerly Songjiang Railway Station, was constructed by the USSR and is a major transfer station. As for the Harbin Eastern Railway Station, trains to Beijing, Tianjin and many other cities are available.
The Nangang Bus Station offers long-distance buses with service throughout the Heilongjiang Province. Available destinations include Shenyang inside the Liaoning Province, as well as Changchun, which lies in the Jilin Province.
