Yanqing County is a suburb of 275,000 people northwest of the capital city of the People’s Republic of China. Just west of the Great Wall of China, between mountains and the Guanting Reservoir, the Kangxi Grasslands offer a cool respite in the Beijing summer heat. A de facto nature reserve and national park, the area is abundant with native plants and wildlife. Visitors to Kangxi Grasslands can observe a wide variety of wild birds while on horseback (or even camelback) and meander through fields of clover and chrysanthemum. The park also features a racetrack, Mongolian-style nomadic huts and significant fox, rabbit and badger populations, among other mammals.

Kangxi Grasslands covers more than 20 million m2. The area is a 90 km drive from central Beijing.
Guanting Reservoir is the primary water source for metropolitan Beijing.
Horseback tours of Kangxi Grasslands take place daily.
