Very happy. Most key staff even knew english and made getting things organised a breeze. Close to shopping and guangzhou train station. Great hotel facilities and bars and restaurants. A bit expensive but based on western marriott prices but still worth staying there to treat yourself to a good hotel.

In China, you walk into a "Business Hotel" costing 250 to 600 Yuan, you arrive in your room (generally perfect) plug your computer into a LAN connection and you are on the internet without even being asked any questions. In a 1350 Yuan hotel this costs at least another 100 Yuan for 24 hours. Why oh Why?

I was upgraded to a suite on the 5th floor which was most welcome but there was work going on on the floor above which went on all day and started very early in the morning

The Marriott hotel is showing its age, especially in the bathroom. Major renovation is needed to maintain its 5-stars status.

They messed up with my reservation. I called the very morning of my check-in and was told that everything was OK. Upon arrival : 40 minutes waiting and eventually we did not get what we had asked for... Very upsetting! Rooms floors were spotted, taps and bath not 100% clean. This hotel is almost 20 years and it definitely shows it! To us, this was clearly not a 5 stars, but more like a 3 stars+. Not recommend to anyone looking for real 5 stars accomodation.

The water flow in the bathroom were flowing always, I mentioned but it was not fixed. The light of the wardrobe: always on, I mentioned but .... Taxi stand: far from the door, difficult to reach with heavy bags (no priority for hotel guest). Poor service: acceptable by a medium or low hotel not by Marriott. No newspaper in the room.

There is no respect of the people and very expensive internet usage. I got another 4 star hotel, it had a better lobby, bigger rooms and half price.

Room not according to hotel standard, (no hairdryer in the room) seems to need refurbishing.

The location is good for the fair, but the rooms are absolutely old with hard bed, staff is always in the rooms, not enough towel, no hairdryer, etc. for a 5 star hotel this is not good. But what is absolutely deploring is how much it''s easy to find some ''ladies of the night'' in the hotel who disturb the customers.

The acommodations at the China Hotel were very good. The staff service there is excellent, especially their ability to communicate in English. We have found the latter to be a problem in other parts of China, but Guanzhou seems to have an abundance of English speakers. We had lunch twice at the Veranda and the buffet is superb.

Would recommend the hotel. However, room was a little ''dated'' compared to other hotels of equal quality - though lobby / entrance and restaurants were up to par - though who''s sleeping in these areas??
