Chifley Plaza Hotel

I often stay here because of familiarity, price and location however my experience is quite variable depending on the room - the refurbished floors are better even if some are still a "little bit rough around the edges" eg sloppy paintwork, stickers still on newer items, bulbs not working, wall hooks missing in bathroom, no wine glasses, wonky lamps, noisy fridge. Not all rooms have a desk for example and recently I needed to request a hairdryer (none on the wall). Linen is good (although no hand towel provided on last few visits) and fresh milk is in the fridge. Lifts are slow and show signs of a busy life and the restaurant is not open most evenings (if any), with a hot breakfast only available from 7am. Plumbing and air con is not always as you would expect. I'm not a fan of wall mounted soap dispensers either but it's not life threatening. It's all about reducing costs, I know but ................... The only ramp/disability access is via the bar and also many rooms have two steps between bathroom and bedroom areas - tricky with a heavy bag or not being fully awake in the middle of the night. However, staff are pleasant (even if there is not many of them) and the hotel is centrally located in the CBD - although it is some distance from "the action", cabs arrive quickly.

staff were awesome could not get more friendly and helpful staff. only down side is the noise from the street, not that the motel can control that and the fridge in room not on and no cold water in same.

We enjoyed our stay but the hotel does need alot of work done on it. The location was the best as we had a function in town and didn't have to drive. The staff were really great and friendly which makes the first impressions more relaxed.Would stay again if they did a bit of work on the rooms

Over priced accommodation with extremely date facilities. Mattress very soft no back support, pillows useless even when doubled up. Bedspread dirty and feral. Foyers broken or missing floor surface. Absolute disgrace , if they are going to renovate they should not offer these rooms. We were on the 3rd level.

can not conplain about the staff were more than helpful, but....the air con in first rooms and yes, was cheaper to book 2 seperate rooms than have the four of us in 1 room go figure, staff would have to clean two rooms instead of one now. the air conditioner was not working even left the rooms for an hour to see if would cool down while we found somewhere to stay cool, on returning when entering rooms could not breathe that hot as the humidity was about 100% and temp was 38 degrees. changed to new rooms and was not much cooler and we all had the worst nights sleep ever. the bar was shut down over christmas period, what the.... and breakfast had changed since last stay. not sure about the new ownership thinking need a new place to stay when in townsville

Very surprised with this hotel. Read some not so favourable comments, but my husband and I were very happy with the room, location and staff. The mall (Flinders Street) was a bit of a mess, but should be great when all the work is finished. Would recommend this to my friends and stay again.

Comfortable and affordable with an excellent location. I am not sure if the price was good because of the massive rennovations to the mall which was adjacent to the motel but location will be excellent when mall is completed. Only real problem was when the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night, I don't believe the guests were properly informed it was safe to go back inside.

The hotel was very run down and needed a face-lift quite urgently. Carpet was moldy and smelling. Curtain broke down on the first day of stay. Room was big though. The location was supposed to be good (centrally located at Flinders Mall) but the area was under re-development programme til end of 2010 and most shops were either queit or moved out. If you plan to go there before end of 2010 I would suggest staying at hotels on Palmer Street, an area much more lively.

While the price for this hotel was very reasonable, you got what you paid for. The hotel badly needs an overhaul. Also parking is away from the hotel and costs 10 euro per day. Would not stay there again.
