Champlung Mas Hotel Kuta Guest Reviews

4 out of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Champlung Mas. We stayed in the new side and it was really nice and clean. Our rooms were serviced everyday which was really nice to come back too especially after bargaining with the locals during shopping which was right there and not much of a walk to get to the beach. Staff were really friendly and willingly to help us with anything we required during our stay. Thumbs up most definately and we will be returning in the near future.

I wouldn't normally review a hotel twice but having a previous negative experience followed by my most recent positive one I am doing so. Having stayed previously, I didn't envisage staying again, however a last minute trip to Bali coupled with finding a reasonable rate I decided to eat humble pie and I am glad I did. The first thing I will say is - do not book the old hotel (often advertised as 'Superior Rooms' on booking websites and the hotels own website). The old hotel is being mothballed and is evident by the lack of money being spent on it. The last time I stayed there was not good and the associated building works, dust and noise were in lieu of the new now open section called 'Deluxe and Deluxe Pool View' rooms. The reception is much brighter, and more open than before. We arrived at around 12pm and were able to check in to our room which was great as nobody wants to be hanging around in the hot climate. I booked a pool view room, this has some negatives and some positives. The obvious positive being the quick and simple access to the pool. The negative being that the hotel seem to allow free access to the pool even at midnight and this coupled with high jinx and alcohol led to a little lack of sleep on occasions. Next time I will book a regular deluxe room. The room is evidently new, the bathroom is huge and whilst there was an issue with the bath tub not emptying, it was rectified within minutes of me reporting it. I note there are many complaints about maintainence issues, you have to remember that any new build hotel will have snags and until people actually use the rooms and facilities and report them they can't be fixed. However, the problem with mosquitos seems to be endemic. Once again, I had to go and buy bug spray. I wouldn't have thought it to be so much of an expense to the hotel to invest in electric bug killers or a daily spraying of the rooms to combat this. I can however overlook this. The breakfast has a simple but adequate selection of western and local dishes, however was getting a bit monotonous after the fourth day.

The Hotel is located at a central location in Legion-Kuta border, the entrance is via a narrow street which is very busy at peak hour. You need to get educated on walking single file in order to survive the first few days, so that the endless motor bikes and cars can get past safely. Crossing any road requires that you look both ways, then look again , then quickly cross, this is survival training for anywhere in Bali. Having said that, do not be put off, the Hotel itself is good and the rates are reasonable. The pool is one of the better ones for that type of Hotel. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Generally costs are minimal for anything, including organising a Hotel car and driver for local tours. The room I had was generally very good, but poor lighting in the bathroom and lack of powerpoint there, was a negative, but you can adapt. The positives outway the negatives, so in summary, it is a great place to stay, once you adjust to the culture differences.
