Central Park House New York Guest Reviews
Talk about a bad experience from the beginning. Orbitz booking was for the 83rd Street location, but when I got there, they told me they booked me for the 73rd Street location. There is no lobby on 83rd Street or much of a sign. so you are talking to an intercom down on the street level to a person somewhere else (not in 73rd street either). My car from the airport had already left us at the 'hotel' around 9PM. So I asked them to send there shuttle and come pick us up. I was told to go get a cab, there was nothing they could do for us. (@$8) I get to 73rd street, and you walk through another hotel, no signs.. luckily the staff there informed me to go to the 2nd floor to the Central Park lobby - which is basically a room with a couple desks, not much of a lobby. A couple of people where already up there complaining about their rooms. I just wanted to get my family settled. We were supposed to have a queen bed with a pull out couch that sleeps 2. Nope. A double bed (with queen sheets, I'll give you that..) and a fold down couch that is the size of a twin. Fine, by now its 10 and I just need to get the kids down to sleep. We made due. Next day, I complained and they were supposed to switch rooms once people had checked out that afternoon. When we came back that evening, the new clerk said she had no record. I asked her to check the book, and sure enough, it was right there. Since the earlier clerk didn't 'Tell her' then it didn't count apparently. No other rooms were available, but they said they would bring up a blow-up mattress. An hour later, she called and said, they had the mattress, but couldn't find the pump. It was probably behind some supplies that had come in that day. I'd already gotten the kids to bed squeezed onto the couch. She promised we would have the blow-up mattress for the next day. I think you can guess if she followed through with that.... The cleaniness was ok, however there were the original stickers on the kitchen faucet (makes you wonder if it was cleaned..) and the fridge had drinks (for purchase), but no water (which was 'free') the kitchen dinet had two chairs that matched, one that didn't and a folding chair. We didn't use the kitchen to make food/eat. Both the 83rd/73rd locations are excellent sites. The 73rd location is beside a men's shelter, and there were people sleeping on the street, but that's NY. I'd rate this as more of a 'hostel'. It has potential, but not the way they are running it. I wouldn't reccomend this place to anyone.

Two minutes walk from Central Park; five minutes walk from the nearest subway station; ten minutes walk from the American Museum of Natural History (the best museum I have been to); and 20 minutes walk from the Met--what's not to like about the location! The walls of our room needed repainting and there was a plumbing problem (which was repaired in reasonable time), but otherwise the apartment was pretty good. However, make sure you get someone to show you how to open the door to the apartment block--there is a knack to this, and if you don't know how to do it you could be outside all night (there is no-one on-site overnight). Overall, adequate accommodation and well-located.

The hotel is not a hotel, it is some how as renting an appartmet. I did not see any one from reception. No elevator, no service at all.
