Mae Sot, in Tak Province, is nestled in the cool northern mountains along the Thai-Myanmar border and is not to be missed if you want to enjoy some fine hospitality.

Location
Centara Mae Sot Hill Resort Tak is located in a quiet corner on Thailand's Western border and only 10 minutes drive from Mae Sot Airport. Only a short distance from Thai-Myanmar market on the bank of Moei River, famed for gems and Burmese handicrafts. Nearby attractions include a first-hand look at the colorful lifestyles of several hill tribe communities, a waterfall tour, an elephant trek, beautiful rock formations and underground stream of the spectacular Mae Usu Cave.

This hotel is really quite good and offers reasonable value for money although it is a few klms from the action. On the first day the bellhop pointed us in the direction of the nearest motorcycle hireshop and said it was a 2km walk & offered to call a taxi for 50Bt which is the same cost as the taxi fare into town. As only 2kms said we could do with the walk. The info the bellhop gave was extremely inaccurate - do not try the walk yourself. I got the feel the management stop taxi's from operating out the front of the hotel as they were everywhere else thereby keeping you captive. Note There is a snooker hall on the opposite side of the road not far, this is a great place to eat/drink. Avoid the country terrace restaurant on same side of road as the hotel, it gave me food poisoning.
