Catamaran Resort Hotel San Diego
5 out of 5

The service was wonderful. The food was fabulous. The staff was friendly and helpful. It was located on a bay which was perfect for sailing or windsurfing. The outdoor seating at the restraunt had a beautiful view and was soo relaxing. The room was very large and very well maintained. The hotel decor was a little dated but with all the positives, who cares.

I thought the staff was friendly and the grounds were beautiful! Although the rooms were comfortable and clean, I felt that they were a little out-dated, and in the hallway/entrance area to our room there was a large stain. Probably time to replace the carpet.

The location of the hotel was great. A block away from the ocean, as well as restaurants and the 8 bus line. The staff was helpful and had great suggestions for meals and activities. However, the room was less than desirable. The hotel seemed to be divided by class and social status. Our room did not have a poolside view as advertised, or any view at all. Nor were the beds spacious and comfortable as claimed by the website. The bathroom was the standard holiday inn hotel bathroom, not the resort, sunny, bright or airy as stated. The description of the room described something that it was not. The hotel was not terrible, just expensive for what was offered.

The resort is excellent. If you're looking to just relax, you would not need to leave the grounds. If you want to be close to San Diego's attractions (SeaWorld, Zoo, Seaport Village, Old Town, Balboa Park, Little Italy), they are all within 15 minutes drive or easily gotten to via Public Transportation. Loads of Restaurants within walking distance.

Sun, Sun, Sun. Coming from Seattle, our goal was, of course, Sun, and beaches. The Catamaran supplies both. You have the Bay in front of you, and (1) block away, you have the Pacific ocean. Our dining experience, was with local restaurants. They are with-in walking distance, and have views of our great Pacific. Reccommend those on the boardwalk. You will know them, because they are packed with people like your-selves.

Wonderful resort. We stayed for 5 nights during Fourth of July. Access to beach adjoining hotel was so easy. Nightly beach activities. Security on site. Nice size pool, clean area. Towels available poolside were large! Landscaping at hotel was beautiful. Easy walking distance to tons of wonderful eating places and tons of shopping. Catered to our every need. We ended up with a studio in the tower. Being able to go on the balcony each morning and enjoy the ocean view was so great. The cruise ship was a nice relaxing evening activity. Would stay again and again.

I stayed at the Catamaran because my friend was getting married there. This hotel was amazing! I was running around so much with wedding obligations though that I didn't get to experience the pool, restaurant, or beach. I will certainly be back to take it all in though! My only complaint is that the elevators in the tower smelt funny. I think it's because there is carpet on the floor and so many people are standing on it dripping wet. The tower elevators were slow too. But that's to be expected with 13 floors.

The hotel was very nice, it is close to the beach and the bay. There is a lot of good restaurants within walking distance to the hotel and the staff are very nice. The pool was also very nice. The hotel rooms should be updated for the price, but overall it was a good experience. The room cleaning staff could do a better job too, there was hair all over the bathroom upon arrival.

Beautiful grounds, excellent food. Eating area looks right onto the bay. The only change I would make is having the pool open from 7-9 AM for adult lap swimmers.

When we arrived we checked in at were told that our room was sold out and that we were going to be upgraded to a bay view with two beds instead of a standard room with a king. When we got to the room it was not ready yet which was annoying but the view was spectacular. The beds ended up being a little small for 2 people to sleep in but we made it work.

Your children will love this place. Lots of things to do and close to Petco Park ,Sea World and the Zoo. You will be able to see the fireworks from Sea World from the shores of Mission Bay right outside the hotel. The Catamaran even had FREE video games everyday!

We had a great time in San Diego and The Catamaran was a beautiful hotel. The downsides to the hotel was the activities desk and the towel policy. The employees at the activities desk were less than friendly on more than one occasion. When asking about reservations for boat rentals the employees seemed as if they were annoyed that we had questions. The other issue was with the towels. We were required to check out towels at the beach as well as the pool. I can understand at the beach but at the pool it seemed unnecessary. We were never told this but if you didn't check the towels back in you would be charged $10 a towel. Most people on vacation don't want to have to worry about such things and the policy seems absurd. The hotel itself was well maintained and the rooms were a little small but nice.

All was good at the hotel. The only complaint we had were that the fitted sheets on the beds kept coming off, made for an uncomfortable night

Mission Beach is just a short walk from the resort. Seaworld is also located close by. The resort itself was very clean and the landscaping beautiful. Housekeeping staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food at The Atoll was excellent. My only complaints are: there was no screen on our balcony door which allowed the bugs free access and there are not enough ice machines located on the property.
