Banff National Park is a vital part of a massive UNESCO World Heritage Site that also includes Jasper National Park, Kootenay National Park, Yoho National Park and the British Columbia provincial parks of Mount Assiniboine, Mount Robson and Hamber. As the first National Park in Canada however, and indeed, one of the first on the planet, Banff is supreme. Lake Louise, both the small town of 1,000 or so people and the world-class ski resort of the same name, is a wonderful gateway to the immense 6,641 km2 park. Visitors can also explore the mountain town of Banff and inherent winter resorts of Sunshine Village and Ski Norquay. Lake Louise is a comfortable and convivial village and a superb platform for a host of summer and winter sports. Home to fine accommodations, restaurants and pubs, the small Alberta town entices a wide range of tourists throughout the year.
