On the shores of Nottawasaga Bay, at the southern point of Georgian Bay, lies the charming town of Collingwood in Ontario, Canada. Originally inhabited by the Iroquois Petun Nation, it is now a four-season destination spot that has both cultural and outdoor attractions. You can ski down the Blue Mountain during the winter season or hike along its trails or visit the Scenic Caves in the spring, summer or fall months. Any season is right for checking out the Niagara Escarpment, from which the famous Niagara Falls cascade down. Just a short distance away from Collingwood is Wasaga Beach, which comprises 14 kilometres (9 miles) of white sandy beach and warm waters along Nottawasaga Bay. This is a popular spot for swimming, cycling and hiking in the warm months and cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in the snowy winter months. Visitors can also learn more of the area’s history at the Collingwood Museum or take in views of massive granite plinths in the Harbourlands.
When To Go
Collingwood has four seasons, allowing for all types of recreation year-round. In winter, temperatures fall below freezing and snowfall occurs, which provides a winter wonderland for energetic skiers or snowboarders. Spring brings rain and slightly warmer daytime temperatures. The summer months are some of the busiest, but perfect for outdoor festivals and recreational activities. Autumn sees the foliage change in brilliant colours, although October can get rainy as well.
