Burn Hall Hotel & Conference Centre York
3 out of 5

The location was perfect. the room was basic with tea and coffee and a small bottle of wine each on arrival. It was not possible to have a hot shower or bath because the water was only luke warm. There was no phone reception in the bedrooms. The hotel in general needed so TLC . The staff were good and the restaurant food was 5 star. The little things did not spoil are stay and we would stay there again .

The hotel profile photo's are cleverly done...not showing you the actual accomodation but only the frontage. The "expansive" gardens are non existant, mostly taken up by a go kart track. On arrival was met with a smile but "too early to check in", no problem, but no offer to store bags etc... just a come back after 2pm! Given a twin room, disabled facilities which smelt like a hospital ward with molding lino floors and a sink pulling off the wall. The bed was so narrow that I rolled out and woke up with my head stuck face down between bed and the broken bedside table. A facet to laugh at now but combined with the cob webs that hit us in the face upon entering the room and the overall experience was nauseating. The bar staff member who served us in the evening was very pleasant and attentive, trying to be helpful, but the restaurant staff need a new job, probably best as prison wardens. Two of us wanted a bar snack , but due to one vegetarian we wanted one item from normal restaurant menu, bar tender happy to oblige but wait staff present at the time of ordering snapped that it can not be done as that is why there is a restaurant, to eat in! Upon check out there was only two things said by receptionist, firstly, "checking out" no good morning etc... and then after checking the account she said " 55 pounds", no please thank you or how was your stay. After handing me my receipt for payment she simply turned to another person checking out and ignored me. But to my interest the people she then attended to demanded to speak to the manager as they refused to pay for the grotto they had to sleep in. I would strongly advise anyone to stay anywhere else if possible.
