The weather in Sofia is typically cooler than other areas in Europe. The winters can be very cold with a lot of snowfall, which is great for those who are planning a ski vacation to Vitosha Mountain. Typically, Sofia sees a generous rainfall throughout the year, and 3-4 cm (1.2-1.6 in) of rain per month is not uncommon. Sofia is home to Sofia Airport, which is known to be the busiest airport in Bulgaria, and is situated a short 10 km (6.2 mi) from the town's centre. It offers service to many major European cities, and there are several budget airlines that fly to this airport. There are inexpensive shuttles and buses at the airport to take you to your lodgings once you arrive, or you can take one of the authorized airport taxis.
You can also travel to Sofia by bus or train from many European cities. There is one international bus station and a few smaller bus stations for shorter routes. Train tickets cost roughly twice as much as bus fares, but this mode is faster and more comfortable.
