Buccaneer Resort St. Croix Guest Reviews
I had gone to the Buccaneer as a child, and now I returned with my daughter to the same beach where I learned to snorkel, so the trip was special to me. In most ways, the hotel lived up to my memory; rooms were great, the beach was beautiful, and the overall experience was excellent. However, on several occasions, I was disappointed by staff shortages, slowness and non-responsiveness. It was clear one afternoon at the Mermaid restaurant lunch shift that there was not enough wait staff to handle the people. One dinner night, the waiter gave a guest with me a very hard time with sending a plate back, AFTER the waiter himself suggested it. Most annoying for me was when another night, the waiter forgot to tell me about the special. An apology and an offer to order it would have been correct. When I asked about it, he simply said that most nights, they have a lobster special and shrugged it off. No apology. Since I don't work or live in the hotel, I'm not responsible to know what the specials are "most nights." But overall, I was happy, and I would definitely return.

Overall not bad. Had a very disappointed dinner one night. Though this would never happen at a resort of this class. Service was the worst i ever had at a resort where you are paying top dollar. They need more help to take care of the guest having dinner.Would not return to this resort again no matter what.

Absolutely perfect experience!!! We enjoyed every moment at the buccaneer! The staff was amazing and incredibly gracious- we were upgraded to ocean front room with the most incredible views out of window and 2 fantastic beaches seconds away with bottle of champagne in the fridge when we got there. Not flashy or too fancy but incredibly comfortable and amazing service and hospitality. Excellent food and drinks at hotel restaurants but helps to rent car to get out and see island - jeep wrangler definitely the way to go and only 50 a day through hotel concierge. Best vacation either of us ever have had and cannot wait to go back!!!

The Buccaneer was a wonderful experience. Excellent location, incredible views, perfect beach's, and wonderful staff. Our room had a great view of Christiansted Harbour and the waves breaking on the reefs that protect the island. The Buccaneer captures the beauty and slow pace of St. Croix.

We loved it, mainly because of the welcoming staff throughout the hotel. Didn't hurt that it wasn't busy season and we had a corner balcony with an ocean view. The free snorkeling right off one of the three hotel beaches (the Mermaid) was almost as good as the highly touted Buck Island. The complimentary breakfasts were great and a terrific value. On our first night, we met some National Parks volunteers (staying there as part of a partnership with the eco-minded Buccaneer) who had saved some hawksbill turtle hatchlings from a destroyed nest and let us hold them. Awesome. Happily, there was Off bug repellent provided along with the usual bathroom kits. Also, the manager's welcome on Tuesday evening with the staff and the other guests at the old sugar mill adjacent to the main building--free drinks and food--was fun. A few issues: 1) A concierge desk that at times was run solely by a trainee who was sweet, but wasn't terribly helpful or on-point. Luckily, Marie at the front desk really stepped up, helping us with Buck Island and moonlight kayak reservations. 2) The pillows, while freshly linen-ed, were a little musty smelling, but that was easily fixed with Febreze. 3) The mattresses were too hard, so I had trouble sleeping a few of the nights we were there (my boyfriend didn't, though).
