Boscolo Grand Hotel Lyon
3 out of 5

An otherwise pleasant and comfortable hotel room was somewhat spoiled by an air-conditioning system that insisted on keepin the room at or above 25 deg C, when we wanted about 21 or 22 C. The biggest hotel bath I've ever seen didn't quite make up for the heat, but I'd be happy to go back, provided they give a money-back guarantee that they've solved the air-conditioning problem.

My wife and I arrived in Lyon at lunch-time on the first of July, which also turned out to be the wettest day of summer, with 600 mm of rain registered for Lyon on that day, equal to the average rainfall for the entire month! Our room wasn't ready and we were told that nothing much is open on Sunday in Lyon. By this time we were not only wet, but also feeling rather dispirited about the whole idea of spending the next few days in a town that was such a backwater it virtually didn't open on a Sunday. However, the attentive staff at Boscolo stored our luggage and directed us to the only two areas in Lyon where some restaurants would be open. Both were within 15 minutes walk, and we chose a rustic-looking seafood restaurant where we had a wonderful lunch, washed down with excellent local wines. Our room was ready when we returned to the hotel, and we were very pleased with every aspect of the accommodation. The room was large, with high ceilings and attractive paintings on the walls. The bathroom was also very roomy and had the biggest (and most comfortable) bath I've seen in a hotel. We were like cows that had just discovered an untouched field of clover and our spirits lifted considerably (and remained high for the remainder of our visit). Lyon turned out to be a treasure trove of chocolate shops, wine cellars, excellent restaurants, fascinating artisanal shops, beautiful churches and so on. Lyon also has an interesting history associated with silk weaving ... however, this review is already probably already far too long and is starting to go off-track, so I'll finish by saying that the Boscolo Grand Hotel helped to turn a possible fiasco into a well-worthwhile visit to France's second-largest city.

The only bad point is due to its location, in the center, with nice view, but noise from the traffic.

For the price we paid thru this booking site, you cannot beat the value of this very stylish and refined hotel. You will feel very special if you ever have the chance to stay here. Lyon is beautiful, too!

Beautiful Hotel in main part of Lyon. A long way from the main train station but right in the heart of Lyon. Enjoyed our stay here more than Paris. Hotel takes up a complete corner so most rooms have a view of the river. Short walk to Old Lyon which was much more interesting than the shopping part. The pictures on Hotel club website are pretty true to real. Very nice Hotel, excellent position delicious breakfast and great price for what you get. Highly recommend this one.

Excellent staff with very good English, particularly at reception. Very quiet although so central. Lovely atmosphere in nice old building. Very good breakfast with lots of choice. Buffet was constantly refilled. Two minor annoyances only. One of the two lifts was out of order for 3 of the 4 days we stayed. Garish pictures in our room. Nice ones in the corridors though. We would definitely recommend this hotel and thought it very good value.
