BlueBay Grand Esmeralda Hotel Playa del Carmen Guest Reviews
Our trip was a family vacation. A family group of 6 people (3 rooms) came down the week before Christmas 2011 to celebrate our daughter-in-law's 30th birthday. We had a geat time @ Blue Bay. The staff was wonderful. We never had to wait for a drink while lounging at the pool & we enjoyed the restaurants. I read some negative reviews prior to our trip that caused me to be concerned about mosquitos among other things. I was concerned for nothing - We had no problems with mosquitos and no difficulty making reservations for dinner, The food was great. Our group also enjoyed the nightly entertainment at the sports bar. Good Vacation!

Booked my 7 days honeymoon trip via O for the first time and it was based on few lies. I paid extra for an ocean view room with O rep assured me it’s a front ocean view and it came with a free upgrade of the room along with a dinner cruise that we never got or the free upgrade. I worked with the hotel with my room situation they told me that free upgrade promotion was from O and when called O they said it was from the Hotel so a lot of finger pointing and neither party wanted to assume responsibility. Our first so called ocean view room include a view of another resort and very little ocean (hotel took care of that) our second room did have a view we settled with but the bathroom sink leaked water on the floor. We also didn't get the honeymoon packaged we promised since we asked for the room changed. Lobby staff is ok and not very accommodating all they say is call O since this was listed on O site. They also said they don't charge extra for Ocean view room and O makes money from this since they are the one who list ocean view or garden view. We booked a deluxe ocean view room and got a standard room. As far as restaurants go like I mention this suppose to be an ALL INCLUSIVE ALL YOU CAN EAT DRINK etc but this is only true to buffets ONLY and buffets don't carry any cocktails or anything. The restaurants they have in the resort as all inclusive do not let you order more than one dish since they say that chef doesn’t like wasting food so we do not have option to try more than one dish. Since we do not drink alcohol we wanted to take advantage of non alcoholic beverages and those were also limited. Restaurants and Buffets close early around 10PM. Sports bar is open all night but serves limited drinks and no food. Most of the food we tried was good, wait staff is excellent and always welcomes extra tips. The nightly shows were Excellent but ended at 11pm and after that most of nights there was nothing else to do. Since this is a 4 star resort room and buildings could use fixing up a little, cleaning staff is always out cleaning but you do hear the cart noised early morning and late night though our the hall way. Besides the room building the rest of the property is well kept staff is out always cleaning, nice pool and beach area but beach itself is not a clear water beach. Excellent landscape throughout and cleaning staff and wait staff and concierge is very nice and quick. Also watch out for time share people they are from the hotel and will get to you soon as you arrive offering $70 or a massage for 2 hours of your time so they can sell you this time share. Despite having room issues and food experience we made our stay good as possible since this was our honeymoon and will not be returning to this resort.

It was our second time at this hotel. Great food, great staff and they are amazing with kids. Only bad side is the beach. They seem to have less beach than last year, probably due to the waves.

we have stayed at a few all inclusive hotels throughout Mexico and the bluebay was not up to the standard of the others!!!! The location is not great and the beach is not the best we have seen either. The rooms and the staff were great. The biggest problem was the food !!!! Although it was all inclusive reservations had to be made at the a la carte restaurants. We only had a two night stay, so by the time we had checked in all the restaurants were already fully booked!!! So we tried to book for our next night but that was also fully booked! That left us to have the dinner buffet for two nights and it was one of the worst buffets I have had!! Other than the freshly cooked pasta the food was very poor. Breakfast and lunch buffets were quite good tho !! Over all our stay at the blue bay was not great. When you pay for all inclusive it would be nice actually get it. Maybe the hotel could leave some seat available at te restaurants for people checking in that day. Also we looked at te restaurants and they were not even full. So maybe a stand by or cancellation list would work !! Next time I'm in Mexico I don't think I would stay here. We were on our honeymoon and it was not a memorable experience. :(
