First off, do not believe all the bad reviews you have been reading. My wife and I went for our 10 year anniversary the week of Thanksgiving. It was one of our favorite vacations we've ever had. So relaxing! We were there 5 nights and had a Jr suite room. The view was amazing from our balcony. The rooms were very clean and the smart tv was nice too. Internet in your room using the tv was really nice. We got to choose 3 of the restaurants while we were there. I think our favorite of the three we tried was the Spanish restaurant. I had the lamb and she had the steak which was cooked perfect. The Japanese restaurant was fun, and my least favorite was the steak house, but was nice sitting by the beach outside. The buffet for breakfast was awesome! The do have two buffets open for lunch, but I would suggest the one by the beach. It had more snack foods such as hamburgers and hot dogs. The main pool was a little crowded with a swim up bar, but while we were there the pool was freezing. The ocean water was actually warmer than the pool so that is where I cooled off. The drinks were great, and you can choose brands of alcohol which was nice. You weren't stuck with the house drink. The only beer at the resort was Dos Equis which was fine by me. There were really only a few downsides of the whole place. Wifi is not free at the resort, but you can pay $19/day if you really need it, but you do have internet in your room so it didn't bother us. The only other thing we really had a problem with was room service is not free, so we never ordered anything from it. Other than that, we would definitely go back again. The wait staff was so friendly and helpful everywhere we went! I would recommend tipping your wait staff and bartenders. They work really hard to please everyone, so a few dollars really helps these guys out.

We had a great time. The staff was very helpful and the room was beautiful. The pool was a little chilly, but the ocean was great!

This hotel has a beautiful pool area, and the rooms are very modern and clean. The adult pool is an oasis that has furniture on the water. However, if like to swim on the ocean this is not the place for you unless you have a death wish. There were over 30 rescues on the beach just during the first seven days that I was at the hotel. The hotel is also far away from the center of town. The cab ride is $35 each way. I found the service at the hotel to be mediocre at best. The rules for the specialty hotels are unpleasant and difficult to follow. Reservations need to be made for the specialty restaurants, and there is only one employee that can make the reservations from 9am to 1pm. Hotel staff claims that the restaurants are always full, but when you actually go the restaurants we found that they were half empty. When I inquired why I was being told that the restaurants were full when in reality they were half empty, hotel staff informed me that they keep the restaurants half empty to provide better service. My opinion is that service is mediocre at best. It should not take 2.5 hours to eat dinner. One last thing, on our last night, the hotel lost electricity, and while the hotel has a generator, the air conditioning and water heater in the rooms did not work. Also, the toilets and sinks in all public areas did not work. While I understand that it is not the hotel’s fault if there is a power loss, what I cannot understand is being lied to and for staff to act as if nothing is wrong. I kept being told that the power was coming back in two hours, then it was four hours, and finally was told that there was a blackout in the entire city, which was untrue. A situation like this presents an opportunity for a hotel to take care of their customers. The hotel did nothing for us, and as I was leaving, I would see family after family checking in, and I do not believe they were told the extent of the problem. I would never return to this property.

As soon as you step foot in to the lobby, the view is absolutely breathtaking. The lobby frames the scenic view of the ocean with the outdoor pools leading you from the lobby to the Sea of Cortez. The room was very spacious and very clean. I got the all inclusive package with a room with a partial view. I was able to hear the crashing waves when I opened my balcony door. The only down side of the package was when I was able to eat my meals. Overall, the food was quite delicious but among the variety of restaurants that are on the premises, they are only open at certain times. If you ever get hungry during an off time, you have to wait for the next available restaurant (speaking from experience).

We loved Barcelo! The staff welcomed us when we arrived and were treated special throughout our stay. The food was good, weather was in the 80's, beautiful sunrise and the sound of the ocean was awesome. We were looking forward to sitting outside by the fire pits however, only 1 night out of 7 were they on, the pool was to cold for comfort and one of the bartenders was not very friendly. Other then that we had a really nice time.
