BEST WESTERN Gare Saint Jean

This hotel was wonderful. Great location directly opposite the station and tram stop for travel to city centre. The room itself is very small but adequate. Breakfast was excellent. Staff exceptionally helpful. Would stay here again without hesitation.

Different sizes of double rooms. Some are too small as double rooms for several nights. Good breakfast buffe.

Excellent location when arriving at the station late at night. We arrived after 11 and after finding our room, (a bit on the small side b ut clean and Air conditioned ) we were able to enjoy a drink at one of the nearby bars. Staff very friendly. The breakfast was Ok but I think the scrambled egg was dried! ugh.

The location was great if you want to be near the train station as I did. I was put in the "garrett" - the only window was a skylight. And while there was an elevator it did not go up to the floor I was on - so I had to drag my luggage up about 30 stairs - no help was offered by the staff. The room was fine - nothing fancy but clean and the bathroom was clean and bright. If I were staying longer I wouldn't stay here but for one night and access to the trains, it worked fine.

3-star hotel conveniently located by the train station. Good for travellers arriving or departing by SNCF. You can take the very nice new tramway to Quinconces in downtown Bordeaux. Room 105 smelled of smoke (.... but after all we are in France where people still smoke in all public places including bars and restaurants!). A bit noisy, but overall good value.

The hotel which is quite close to the SNCF rail station which is a positive for some and negative for most because 1. There are atleast 4 sex shops within 30 meters of the hotel and I don't need to explain the environment after dark... 2. The number of car parks the hotel offers is only 7 and hence if you want secure parking for your car -add another 20 euros to the cost of the room. 3. If you booked your room through internet and reached late on the day of your stay (for us it was Friday night), you run the risk of being told that you can't cancel the booking for the above stated reasons and that the decision if your card would be charged will only be taken by the manager who does not work from Friday night to Monday morning! 4. If you are lucky to be given a top floor room as it can be noisy on the lower floors, the pigeons living permanently on the roof can make it very hard for you to sleep after 6 AM. Otherwise the quality of rooms and staff are not bad for a 3 star hotel.

This hotel is well located being close to the train station and a convenient tram service that will take you to the centre of Bordeaux. The room was on the small side and furnishing was adequate. Friendly and helpful staff.

The reception staff were invariably friendly and helpful. We had a twin room and had requested a double, but the hotel was full, so there was no point complaining. This room, 305, had minimal storage space and no drawers, so was not suitable for anything other than a 1 night stay. The bathroom had been shoe-horned in. Fortunately we are of slim build, else it would have been even more challenging! It was not possible for me to turn round in the shower...Sitting on the toilet was possible, since one''s knees were in the shower! However, we believe other rooms are larger! Ours was certainly very clean.

We were pleasantly surprised by the standard at the hotel. It was very acceptable for a weekend break. Being near the station was good. The price on the internet decided our reservation. Thanks. LJ white.
