Avalon Hotel & Spa Portland Guest Reviews
Nice, clean Hotel and for my needs a great location. This was my second visit and I would stay there again.

The hotel was not very accomodating, The room had ants, and the spa closes at 9:00 PM. I finally got to go to the spa in the morning very disappointed, it was unclean, had ants, and the steam room was not working. I will be calling you about a refund.

We stayed at the Avalon for 4 nights in October 2011. Overall we are happy with everything; great service, nice staff, and the restaurant Aquavina next door is excellent. The gym in the hotel is huge - the largest hotel gym I've seen, and there's a spa as well (which we did not use). There's no restaurant in the actual hotel; they set up a good continental breakfast every morning on each floor. The ONE negative comment I have to make, is the unfortunate result of new construction: thin walls between the rooms. It's not cool to be able to listen to to your neighbors next door and hear every word they say.

I went to the Oregon Health Center and the hotel is perfectly located.

Found this hotel near downtown Portland after researching other hotels on-line in the same area. We stayed in a suite (hillside suite) that was large, very comfortable, modern, and very enjoyable (and we paid up for the difference, though it was worth it). Good - close enough to downtown to get there quickly, but far enough away to be quiet at night (away from traffic, rowdy partiers, etc). Right on river, very scenic, nice path for running/biking. Hotel had a nice spa and workout area - we walked through these but never got the chance to use. Rooms, lobby, etc are very modern and decor is nice. Our room (suite) had great lighting, balcony, gas fireplace, large bathroom (tub and shower), and comfy bed. Restaurant had great view and reasonably good food. Bad - nothing significant, mostly small things. We chose to not rent a car, and walk to the trolly to downtown each time wasn't bad (15 minutes) but far enough to discourage short trips (would be a long walk in the rain, or for women in uncomfortable walking shoes). Room had no refrigerator. We asked on the first day and it took until the 3rd day to get one. There was no nearby place to get water, drinks, snacks (and no refrig to keep them in) and none in the room. Not major, but reduced our relaxation factor. Breakfast was a small layout of continental items on each floor (OJ, nut bread, some fruit, coffee, and cereal). This was limited and depleted quickly. I was expecting more. Room service menu was limited and a bit over-priced considering the restaurant was next door. I would stay there again, but bring snacks, consider renting a car, and ensure refrig is in room to start with.
