In addition to a prior function as a concert hall, the Town Hall is home to Centennial Hall, many receptions rooms, Sydney City Council and last but not least, the office of the Lord Mayor. The Town Hall is on Australia’s Register of the National Estate, a tribute it shares with nearby notable points of interest like St. Andrew’s Cathedral and the Queen Victoria Building. As the focal point of city politics, Sydney Town Hall is a major hub of civic and cultural activity. The front steps, clock tower and elaborate interior motifs of the Town Hall draw scores of locals and visitors alike.

The Sydney Town Hall Grand Organ is the world’s biggest mechanical pipe organ. Free organ recitals are held in Centennial Hall throughout the year.
Sydney Town Hall was built between 1869 and 1889 on top of the Old Sydney Burial Ground, the first permanent cemetery in Sydney.
