The Sydney IMAX Theatre Technology

IMAX technology employs film with resolution ten times better than that usually used for cinema presentations, and the result is an enormous, eerily clear picture which leaves the impression that what one is viewing is actually occurring.

Using advanced infra-red technology, IMAX can even add 3-D effects to some films: headsets will provide surround-sound. Both were part of the IMAX “Superman Returns” experience in 2006.

The Sydney IMAX Theatre Location and Schedule

The Sydney IMAX Theatre, located on Darling Harbour, with a yellow and black checkerboard façade making it nearly impossible to ignore, opened in 1996. The theatre complex, on the Harbour’s Southern Promenade, has its own espresso café and licensed bar.

The Theatre’s eight-story screen shows different films of about an hour in length throughout the day, with new films being added to the schedule at regular intervals. It also makes its film library available for showing at private functions, complete with a selection of soft drinks, beers, wines, and, of course, popcorn, chips, and candy.
