Snowy Mountains General Information

The Snowy Mountains comprise the venerable pulse point of winter sports action in Australia and unfurl some of the best slopes in the Southern Hemisphere. Colloquially known as “The Snowies”, the dominant mountain range in the country includes Mount Kosciuszko. With a summit height of 2,228 metres, Kosciuszko is the virtual rooftop of Australia and the linchpin, eponymous feature of Kosciuszko National Park. ... Read more »

The town of Jindabyne, New South Wales is a popular gateway to the Snowy Mountains. A manageable 465 km from Sydney, 575 from Melbourne and 185 km from Canberra and the Australian Capital Territory, the breezy, mellow community of 2,000 people attracts waves of tourists throughout the year. While ski resorts embody what Jindabyne is all about from June to August, Lake Jindabyne comes alive in the summer and offers superb recreation as well. When the mercury dips however, the slopes of Smiggin Holes, Perisher, Charlotte Pass, Thredbo and Blue Cow teem with ski and snowboard lovers. The winter resorts reside in Kosciuszko National Park and beyond the slopes, visitors to the Snowy Mountains should make every effort to explore the rest of the reserve, from the Yarrangobilly Caves to Tin Mine Falls.
