Summer temperatures (December through March) are around 71°F (22°C); fall temperatures (March through May) are cooler at 61°F (16°C) and great for outdoor activities. Winter and spring temperatures (June through November) decrease to 55°F (13°C) during the day and 41°F (5°C) at night. Precipitation totals measure 24 inches (610 mm) annually, with most falling in winter and spring.

Getting There & Around

To reach Port Arthur, fly into the Hobart International Airport. While there is ground transportation available, most hire a vehicle to get to the town, a trip that takes about 90 minutes.

Once visitors obtain their vehicle, they follow the Tasman and Arthur Highways, which form part of the Convict Trail Touring Route. Watch for animals crossing the road, especially at night. Considering that the town itself is an attraction, visitors can also walk to reach most of the sites.
