Favourite Cities and Hotels in Australia

Outside of Perth, no city in enormous Western Australia has more people than Mandurah. Of course, with a population of just under 70,000, the city is no metropolis. Nonetheless, Mandurah offers visitors all the inherent comforts of urban life, with the spectacular scenery and natural wonders Down Under travelers rightfully expect.

Though Mandurah consistently ranks as one of the lest affordable urban areas in Australia, that does little to stem the tide of international tourists every year. The main allure is a vast stretch of sandy, Indian Ocean coastline, full of luxury resorts and diverse accommodation. Superb recreation is also on hand in Mandurah, courtesy of the Peel Harvey Estuary, which runs parallel to the coast and dwarfs Sydney Harbour in size. Primary points of interest in the city include Abingdon Miniature Village, the Barragup Australiana Museum and Mandurah Ocean Marina. Serpentine National Park and Yalgorup National Park are both worth a visit as well.

    Marvellous Mandurah

Sitting about 70km south of Perth is Mandurah, a town that has grown from a teensy-weensy coastal village on the shores of the Peel-Harvey Estuary to a thriving spot for peeps who want to get away somewhere special. Good going, Mandurah! ... Read more »

Firstly, head to the Mandurah Community Museum, a place with stacks of traditional Aboriginal artwork as well as other fascinating bits and bobs. Next, try a hike along the famous Bibbulmun Track or cycle through the Munda Biddi Cycle Trail for some pretty scenery, native animals and one hell of a workout. Famished? Head to Mandurah Terrace and Pinjarra Road for the best in food and drink. Often overshadowed by its big-city northern neighbour, Mandurah is fast becoming one of the best attractions in the west.

    MANDURAH EVENTS

March’s Mandurah Crab Fest is pretty much what you think it’s gonna be – a mammoth pile of crab and other seafood goodies.

The Mandurah Boat Show in October is for everyone who loves on-the-water action. Here you’ll find the latest and greatest in jet skis, yachts and kayaks, as well as bunch of live demos on things like ‘how to fish’ and ‘how to go boating’.

Everyone loves kids, right? No? Well, you should probably stay away from the Mandurah Children’s Festival in late October.

Mandurah’s Christmas Pageant in mid-December is pretty darn spesh. Watch hoards of Chrissy lovers come together to watch a big parade filled with Christmas-themed floats.

    WHEN TO GO

    GETTING AROUND

    • Buses are a good way to get around town, but aren’t ideal for people wanting to explore some not-so-common areas.
    • If you’re driving to Mandurah, you’re lucky as it opens up so many exploring possibilities. Make sure to park on side streets rather than main ones to avoid hefty parking fees.
