MAGNETIC ISLAND EVENTS
March lights up the screen with the Magnetic Island Film Festival. It’s movie mania for three days, with everything from blockbusters to art house featured.
ANZAC Day sees over 1,000 people come together to pay their respects. A dawn service kicks things off, followed by parades and lots of beers.
November sees huge numbers of school leavers falling about to celebrate Schoolies Week. The island puts on lots of safe special events that everyone can join in with.
The Magnetic Island Wine Festival swills into town in July and gives visitors the opportunity to sample over 50 different drops.
September and October feel the groove with a month of live music for the Bay Days Festival. There’s music, markets, gallery openings, walks, talks and theatre!
WHEN TO GO
· If there’s one thing we can say for sure it’s that no matter what time of year you visit, you’re bound to have nice sunny weather and around seven to nine hours of sunshine a day.
· Temperatures are mild throughout the year, averaging around 30°C (86°F) from September to March.
· April is the coolest month, with temperatures down to around 14°C (57°F).
GETTING AROUND
· Each Magnetic Island village is small enough that you can do most of your exploring on foot.
· Hire a bike to explore the island at your leisure.
· There is a bus service that will take your from Picnic Bay to Horseshoe Bay, but it only runs every 40 minutes.
