Kingly Kingscliff

Kingscliff is a coastal town in northern NSW near Tweed Heads. Swimming, surfing, fishing, water sports and diving on Fido’s Reef are just a few of the activities you can enjoy. If your surfing experience amounts to little more than watching Point Break, never fear – there are loads of classes available that will have you carving up the waves on Cabarita Beach in no time. ... If, however, your idea of a holiday involves less swallowed seawater and more rest and relaxation, Kingscliff offers many al-fresco dining options where all you’ll be swallowing are oysters and Sauvignon Blanc. In fact, because it is situated in the heart of great farming and fishing areas, Kingscliff is fast building a reputation as a foodie’s delight. And then, if you’re looking for wilder adventures, the Gold Coast is only a short drive north…

KINGSCLIFF’S TOP 10

10. Deep Sea Fishing You’ll be spoilt for choice with so many charter boats available. Hopefully the ocean will offer up the same abundant choice.

5. Norries Headland Enjoy the great views overlooking Diamond Beach.

9. Kingscliff Shopping Centre When you drop from all the shopping, it’s time to relax in one of the seaside cafés or restaurants.

4. Mount Warning National Park This nearby park sees you enter a world of wildlife, with many local birds.

8. Tropical Fruit World Home to the widest variety of tropical fruit in the world. Be sure to stay for lunch and sample the fruit-growers’ hard work.

3. Casuarina Sculpture Walk Admire the sculptures winding their way along the Kingscliff foreshore.

7. Fingal Lighthouse Built over 100 years ago, this is a good place to look out over the water.

2. Cudgen Nature Reserve Get amongst the wildlife with hills, lakes and animals.

6. Diamond Beach With few people on the sand and pristine waters, you can’t really ask for more from a beach.

1. Tweed River A great place to go fishing, or simply enjoy a cruise with lunch or dinner.

KINGSCLIFF EVENTS

The Malfunction Surf Festival in March provides competitions for surfers of all levels, from the summer weekender to the pro.

Don’t forget to bring your bike in April for the Battle on the Border Cycling Festival. It includes social rides, competitive rides, and best of all… parties!

In May, the Art, Food and All That Jazz Festival will deliver exactly what it promises: original art, food you don’t want to put down and loads of cool jazz.

In September you can tackle one of the best-looking triathlon courses in the country as you swim, ride and run for the Kingscliff Triathlon.

October’s Main Street Festival is a giant collective street party with various forms of entertainment.

WHEN TO GO

· Kingscliff’s subtropical climate delivers plenty of sunshine.

· Daytime temperatures rarely drop below 20ºC (68ºF) – even in winter.

· The wettest months are February and March, when the rain offers some respite from the sun.

GETTING AROUND

· If you are only interested in experiencing the town itself – and we don’t blame you for not wanting to leave the beach – then foot power is all you’ll need to get around.

· If you want to experience the entire region and the national parks, driving is the way to go.

· Alternatively, buses will take you up and down the coast.
