Favourite Cities and Hotels in Australia

Premier holiday destination, elicitor of oohs and ahs and lurer of travel photographers the world over, Byron Bay is a tasty oceanside town in New South Wales, Australia. A short drive from Brisbane, Queensland and a considerably longer, yet breathtakingly scenic, trek up the coast from Sydney, the tidy community of 5,000 people is a veritable magnet for domestic and international arrivals alike.

Byron Bay’s juiciest carrot is geography. For many, this pretty corner of New South Wales is the product of divine providence and upon first glance, one can easily see why. A surge of lush, verdant hinterland unites with a handsome curl of seashore to form one of the most achingly gorgeous slivers of real estate in Australia. It’s too far-gone to recall when Byron Bay was a hidden gem and indeed, in the decades since, the town has attracted all manner of hippies, backpackers, surfers, counterculture beatniks, artists, organic locavores, yoga instructors and yes, moneyed spa resort-goers. It all makes for an eclectic road trip target and, despite the frenzied popularity, a surprisingly laid-back and beguiling one at that. From picture-postcard beaches to first-class restaurants, phenomenal nature reserves to vibrant festivals, Byron Bay is a consistent charmer.

Byron Bay is known around the country for its alternative lifestyle, so you can also be sure that after days spent relaxing and/or exploring, the nights will be no less enjoyable!
