Broken Hill Climate

With its desert climate, Broken Hill experiences very cold, dry winters and hot, dry summers. The average high temperature during summer (November through March) can be as high as 90°F (32°C). Although humidity is low, an occasional storm does occur; visitors should be prepared for dust storms as well while visiting in and around the town.

Getting There & Around

As a stop on the great Southern Railway, Broken Hill is easy to reach. The popular CountryLink Xplorer runs between the town and Sydney weekly. The Broken Hill Airport operates air service to and from Sydney and other destinations.

Broken Hill can be traversed by hired car or bus. Most visitors will find walking sufficient in town, while further distances will require a vehicle. It is important to note the town is somewhat remote, and exploring should be done by those who have knowledge of the Outback.
