Brisbane Hotels near Chinatown
Two stone lions, placed right in front of the Rotunda situated at Ann Street end, welcome visitors to the Chinatown of Brisbane. They are believed to be guards which prevent the evil spirits from entering the Chinatown. These weigh nearly 705 pounds and serves as a symbol of friendship, which were presented as a gift from the People’s Republic of China. Series of Rotundas have been installed around the place. Rotundas are big gates at the entrance constructed by the people of Qingdao City of China. Their architecture was inspired by the Tang Dynasty era. During the Chinese New Year, the Chinatown in Brisbane comes alive with lots of celebrations and performances. The area is populated by restaurants offering fine dining to laneway and arcade noodle houses, and is home to a number of Chinese medicine and herbalist centers, Asian grocery supermarkets, Bookstores, Fashion boutiques and other retail outlets in arcades. A water garden with a fountain and pond has been added recently to make Brisbane Chinatown even more attractive. The fountain symbolizes good fortune according to the belief of local Chinese community. Chinatown is the hub of Asian trade in Brisbane, with a variety of supermarkets, restaurants, trinket and clothing shops, Chinese medicine shops and markets on the weekends.
Chinatown is only a short bus or train ride from the CBD and there are three convenient public car parks adjacent to it. For the last minute booking there are number of hotels like Carlton Crest Hotel Brisbane, and Conrad Treasury Hotel Brisbane which are not too far from Brisbane Chinatown.
