Abel Point Marina is your access point to the wonderful water world that is the Great Barrier Reef, but you can also take a scenic flight by seaplane or helicopter to Heart Reef and experience the clear water from the air. Return in the evening and enjoy Airlie Beach’s nightlife. They call this the ‘party town of the Whitsundays’ for a reason, and many a bleary-eyed and sunburned backpacker will tell you that they came for a three-day sailing trip… and ended up spending three months.

Airlie Beach Events
In August, Airlie Beach Race Week sees yachties from far and wide visit the region to do battle on the water.
The Great Whitsunday Fun Race and Outdoor Party in September is an amusing event where everybody dresses up and the party goes well into the evening.
In September, the Whitsunday Boat and Leisure Show will have you green with envy. Also in September is the Airlie Beach Festival of Sport, which can be enjoyed by anyone who can run, swim, ride a bike or hit a volleyball. So nearly everyone, then!
You won’t be bored in October at the Whitsunday Reef Festival, with everything from sand sculpting competitions to fashion shows on offer.
When To Go
- Airlie Beach has a subtropical climate, which can act as a magnet for cyclones from January to March.
- For most of the year the weather is warm and wonderful!
- Daytime highs seldom drop below 25ºC (77ºF).
