Astor Metropole Hotel Brisbane
4 out of 5

Friendly helpful staff, neat room, beautiful foyer and reception. Excellent location and easy to access. I won't bother looking for anywhere else to stay when I'm in Brisbane. Only fault was the menu, there wasn't much to choose from and no breakfast type stuff.

This hotel is "okay". I have stayed here twice now - but will probably not stay here again. The rooms and kitchens are good - but most of the things for the kitchen are usually missing. I still had to go and purchase my own mugs. Also the air-conditioner controls in room 22 were ONLY IN CHINESE!!?? when i asked the front desk their only suggestion was that they could get me an interpreter!? (see photo of controls) As a result the room got to 40c before i could get the air conditioner to turn on! I had also organized for a later check out but then had a staff member come to my room and tell me i had over stayed? I also had no kettle in the room and it took the staff 3 hours to find one for me ?

Nice quiet, comfortable room, perfect location for walking to city, parks, church, bus and train. Friendly, helpful staff. As country folk we loved the quiet room, no traffic noise, or street lights shinning into our room. Enjoyed a quiet break after 7 nights on the Gold Coast with 4 Grandchildren under 5years. Excellent cooking facilities.

our favourite budget hotel in BrisVegas Friendly helpful staff Recently renovated Excellent value! only complaint would be that Rm 501 bathroom design really poor, shower splash fell over handbasin and chipboard underbench cupboard with consequent water damage warping and mould - not a good look for a new fitout

Hotel is located on low hill in quiet area with nice large parks nearby. Also near, 10 mins walk, Queen Street mall where food and shopping abound. Walking back to hotel is tiring due its uphill. Staff very helpful in giving directions to places we wanted to go. 5 mins walk to Brisbane Central Station where trains (reasonably priced) run to airport. Room is clean and nice.

We were expecting a family room as we have 6mnth old & the room was not big enough. The floors, mirrors & shower were not clean. There was minimal hot water & no water pressure in the shower. We were unable to bath the baby as the switch to change the shower to the bath was broken. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

I had 2 bed bugs on me when I woke up, full feed with body blow up like a balloon. I also find another one on the pillow. Will never go back there.

You get what you pay for and this is often the cheapest option on booking engines. While there were renovations while I was there - the pool was out of action, was quite noisy in the foyer and staff were only moderately helpful. The rooms are quite dated. But it is just a stroll down the hill to central station and is close to the centre (if you can walk up the steps on the way home).

Although room was average (hotel was under renovation), the location is perfect, walking distance to Brisbane CBD, Central Station, Suncorp Stadium. Great value for money!

We booked then looked at some reviews and were very apprehensive about what we were getting. You get what you pay for so 3 star was about the price and the place was comparative. Staff were good, room was good, some areas a little tired but certainly not to complaining stage, position in town was good with a free bus every 10 minutes or so down the hill to CBD during the day. Small balcony to read the paper and morning coffee. Large screen tv. Could walk to Chinatown (good) and 'the valley' (not impressed) and into town down the hill, about 5 mins. Everything we needed. Upgrading work being done. Would stay there again.

Good experience! 5 min walk from stores, mall and central train station, 15 min walk from Brisbane South Bank. Wish there was free wifi as it was a week long stay. Great staff, very accomodating and helpful!

I was there on a business trip in May 2011. The room had basic cooking facilities, a smoke alarm, and a a warning of a fine should the alarm is set off. I then realised one of the batteries in the remote control removed, and there wasn't hot water in the tap. I've turned the tab to the far end and filled more than half the tub. No hot water. Tried again on the other far end for half a fresh tub, still no hot water. When I enquired at the reception, I was told I can "still press the buttons to control the aircond" to which I replied "are you suggesting that I climb up to the high-mounted aircond?". As to the hot water for bath, I was asked to "turn it on for 5 minutes" (seriously) until the water turns hot. I filled 2 half cold water tanks earlier! Are we even trying to save water in Australia?! When I checked out the next day, I saw my neighbouring room undergoing renovations.
