We celebrated our 2nd anniversary at the Whaler, it was absolutely wonderful. The location next to Whaler's Village is perfect and convenient. Great beach access, our stay was definitely not long enough. Cannot wait to go back!

This was our second stay at this hotel. This year there is a major renovation done, should be finished in January. Therefore a lot of noise from 8:00AM 'till 4:00PM Mo-Fri. All the services (pool, room service, maintenance, garden/pool maintenance) was working very good, we would say that better as a year ago. Our room was newly rebuilt, it was clean, well equipped, overall excellent including the friendly room service.

The condo was great! Very comfortable and spacious! I wish we could have stayed longer. The Whaler village was also very nice. We had shopping and restaurants just a short walk away. Maui is a very beautiful place, I hope to go back someday. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone and everyone.

Our stay was 1 week during the last week of September. It was not our first trip to Hawaii, nor will it be our last. We were checked in promptly by Ben on a Saturday afternoon, who gave us unit 164. It was recently renovated, a garden view economy room as we had booked. We did ask if an upgrade was possible, but once we stayed in the unit, it was great! The kitchen was sleek, all black granite & stainless - & fully stocked for any basic cooking needs. There was a pineapple, nicely cored, & 2 bottles of H20 in the fridge for post flight hunger pangs. The rest of the unit was very clean, & I want to point out there was a docking station for my IPod & a flat screen TV- the desk gave us a DVDNow card & we could check out DVDs at no charge - 2 per day. The bath was delightful with a walk-in shower -another renovation - it had a river rock shower floor & glass wall. Shower amenities were quite nice, with native island ingredients. If you have privacy concerns, remember this unit 164 is next to the entry into the building - HOWEVER, the construction walkway provided us privacy & don't forget there are blackout drapes, folks! I'd suggest the mgmt. consider a planting to screen the unit in the future. Otherwise, we had no privacy problem at all. The construction noise was easily blocked by closing the lanai doors, AND the crew was gone by 5 pm every day & off on the weekends! .We were within walking, trolley, or maui bus distance of most attractions we wanted to pursue - mainly rest & relaxation. What really made this facility stand out was the staff - they were very friendly, helpful people with us. I wish I could name them all, but truly everyone had the great attitude of 'hey, how can we help you' towards us as guests. I hope our attitude as guests were as good to the staff - we are a seasoned pair of travellers, & would like to recognize a certain level of service is always hoped for, but not easily attained, even at far more prestigious resorts in Kaanapali. The staff here delivered a rare thing - consistently good service, take our word for it. We had noticed only very minor glitches - we were short a can opener in the kitchen, & the washers & dryers were an additional charge to use. I'd suggest : * Stock kitchen with nalgene H20 bottles & reusable bag with hotel logo vs. plastic bottled H20. * Offer to stock kitchen with groceries in advance, perhaps? We'd have been happy to pay in advance for that. * A periodic cleanup on the lawns by the lanais of the small construction debris - there were quite a few tile chips that were sharp near the lanais. * Also, it seemed odd that one could not walk out from the lanai onto the grounds - perhaps the railing could be made to feel less like being behind playpen bars on ground level? ; -) - As for local highlights here are a few things we liked: * The pool area had: free coffee in the AM; some nice guy brought me lemonade in the afternoon, & at night they lit the pools retro 70's style-since they chose red lights for the hot tub, we just had to nickname it Pele's Poi Pot. ( sorry folks. go ahead & groan.) * The helicopter ride by Sunshine helicopters! * Black Rock Sunset ceremony * Snorkel Cruise on the Terelani - thank God they had some rock music vs. Hawaiian, great lunch & Josiah was another standout staff person - Snuba instructor. * We had a great dinner at Duke's at Honua Kai - sustainable food & a comfortable ambiance for us, not priced in the stratosphere, either. * Napili Beach & Honolua Bay preserve * Helena at Spa Moana was an excellent masseuse - the Spa was excellent - the service included use of the exercise room & ladies spa lounge - the shower room was stocked with everything!

I stayed at the Whaler on Kaanapali Beach with my best frined to celebrate her 40th birthday. This condo-hotel was perfect location next to the Whaler's shopping mall and in front of Kaanapali Beach. The view was awsome and staffs were kind and helpful. The room was decolated with Hawaiian style and welcome us with a gift of pineapple. The kitchen and bathroom were clean and nice. Overall, we had a wonderful experience with this condo-hotel.

Although there is ongoing construction, this didn't bother our vacation in the least. You did see workers during the day when looking at the other tower (not the one we stayed in) and the scaffolding was visible but who pays attention to the outside of the building when in Maui?? You still have breath-taking ocean views and the noise of the ocean drowns out the construction during the day. We loved the proximity to Whalers Village (and all the restaurants); great boardwalk between all the hotels; fantastic view of Black Rock (where you can see the torches being lit at sunset,as well as the cliff dive). Great pool and you can't ask for more being on top of Dig Me Beach. Facilities were clean, condos were well stocked, had all the amenities I was looking for. Great space in the 2 bedroom ocean view condo we stayed in. Laundry on each floor was SO helpful. Front desk staff were friendly, thoughtful, and very helpful. Don't pack beach or bath towels, they have them there. We stocked our kitchen with groceries from Costco and Longs Drugs (support local stores and go to Longs, consider avoiding high priced chains). This was our first time staying in Ka'anapali and we used the bus system several times to get down to Lahaina (I recommend buying the $2 day pass for each person.. unlimited rides). Leaving the car in the underground garage was great, didn't have to bother with finding parking or the possibility of parking tickets!

This was a great location-closeness to the beach and eateries but very quiet. We booked a studio with the request for twin beds as we were mother and adult son but I doubt they have twins as upon arrival the desk told us only king or queen with fold out sofabed which was not very comfortable, was available. But that was the only negative and the studio had everything- complete modern kitchen with full size fridge and dishwasher and every appliance. Flat screen TV with DVD. Great outdoor BBQ area beside the beach at no extra charge. Highly recommend.

Great location and a very nice property. The hotel is in the process of redoing its courtyard which made for some daytime construction noise, but it wasn't too bad. 2 of the 3 elevators on one of the towers were out of service for much of the week which was very inconvenient for everyone.
