Argyle On The Park Christchurch
4 out of 5

We enjoyed our stay in Chrischurch and at The Argyle on the Park . Certainly a perfect location to Hagley Park which provided lovely walks along the Avon. The abundance and variety of eating establishments in such close proximity was certainly a bonus. Also we did not have transport and enjoyed the bus rides around the town and to Sumner for just "a song"and free transport to the Casino from the motel.

Driving to the hotel was quite a pain in Nov/Dec with the roadworks on going around the area. Check in was good, the owner's son was in charge that day and he was a candid fella. Internet/wifi was a disappointment as it was not free.. however no the end of the world. The room had a queen bed in the living area and 3 single beds in a room. which was more than enough. As advertised, there were extra tv channels with the set up box. The room with the 3 beds had a nice flat screen hung on the wall, however that tele did not have extra tv channel so we settled for the small crt in the living. The furnitures were definitely dated and well used, we sank right to the bottom of the sofa in one of the chairs. But this was an overall affordable and conveniently located accomodation that sure was worth its value.

I had a unit with a separate bedroom. The bed was comfortable and it was quiet, so I got a good sleep. There is a large flat-screen TV in the lounge and another one in the bedroom. The unit was spacious, with a separate kitchen area with full stove, small fidge and microwave. The bathroom was very small and old-fashioned, but it was clean and the shower worked well. There was WiFi in the unit, but you had to pay an extra $10 per night.

I think this hotel is best position as base-camp for city sightseeing, shopping, and walk around.

Enjoyed the fact that you could walk in one direction and end up at the mall and the Paknsave grocery store and if you walked the other way, you were in the downtown of Christchurch. Quite practical! Perfect to cook yourself a meal instead of eating out. And yet if you want to eat out, close to many restaurants.

Booked this hotel because of location - halfway between the large Riccarton Mall and Christchurch Hospital so could easily walk to both. Internet flat fee of $NZ10 per day for 2 simultaneous users was awesome. Only thing missing was a bath tub which have made bathing our toddler twins a happier experience. Appreciated the wall fan-heater which heated up the whole unit quickly, and complimentary milk, biscuits and hot drink mixes. Male owner at Reception was friendly and helpful as well.

A pretty ordinary motel but great location on Hagley Park within walking distance of botanical gardens and what's left of the city.

Great location, walking distance to botanical gardens and centre of Christchurch. Owners are very friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and at home. Even picked us up from the Trans Alpine Train (free of charge). Rooms are very spacious and cooking facilities is a real bonus. We stayed twice and would definitely stay again

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Argyle on the Park. The host was most helpful and gave us some great tips on where to eat and also explained what parts of Christchurch are not available to the general public because of the earthquakes that devastated the township. The Argyle on the Park is in an excellent location, within easy access to the city and opposite a beautiful, large park. Although the motel is on a busy road, traffic noise was minimal due to the double-glazed windows. The rooms were spacious, clean and well equipped. I would not hesitate to stay again.

We had great service even before we checked in! We called for directions from outside the city, got very easy directions and found our way without difficulty. The gentleman who checked us in personally escorted us to our room. Like so many places in New Zealand we were offered a complimentary bottle of milk for our tea. I love this civilized country !!!! The room is literally across the street from the large city park and sports fields. It is a beautiful location and easy walking distance to Christchurch core and shopping. Can't wait to go back!!!

My room has a kitchen with a microwave oven, stove/oven and cooking pots, plates, etc. It also has a public washer and drier. The facility is old, but it is clean. It is nice for a family.

We had a very pleasure and comfortable stay at this hotel. Towels, shampoo, milk, coffee and tea are provided. All beds come with heater. The bed is very comfortable that we are reluctant to wake up from our sleep. Love this hotel very much!

A great place to stay. We were made to feel very welcome by the husband and wife team that operate the motel. We slept on what was without a doubt the best bed of our whole trip to NZ - a firm mattress just the way we like it. The decor is a little dated but the size of the room was generous and the kitchenette well equipped. A Shower can make or break a room for me and this shower was tops. Plenty of flow and easy to use mixer tap.
