We enjoyed our stay in Chrischurch and at The Argyle on the Park . Certainly a perfect location to Hagley Park which provided lovely walks along the Avon. The abundance and variety of eating establishments in such close proximity was certainly a bonus. Also we did not have transport and enjoyed the bus rides around the town and to Sumner for just "a song"and free transport to the Casino from the motel.

Driving to the hotel was quite a pain in Nov/Dec with the roadworks on going around the area. Check in was good, the owner's son was in charge that day and he was a candid fella. Internet/wifi was a disappointment as it was not free.. however no the end of the world. The room had a queen bed in the living area and 3 single beds in a room. which was more than enough. As advertised, there were extra tv channels with the set up box. The room with the 3 beds had a nice flat screen hung on the wall, however that tele did not have extra tv channel so we settled for the small crt in the living. The furnitures were definitely dated and well used, we sank right to the bottom of the sofa in one of the chairs. But this was an overall affordable and conveniently located accomodation that sure was worth its value.

I had a unit with a separate bedroom. The bed was comfortable and it was quiet, so I got a good sleep. There is a large flat-screen TV in the lounge and another one in the bedroom. The unit was spacious, with a separate kitchen area with full stove, small fidge and microwave. The bathroom was very small and old-fashioned, but it was clean and the shower worked well. There was WiFi in the unit, but you had to pay an extra $10 per night.

I think this hotel is best position as base-camp for city sightseeing, shopping, and walk around.

Enjoyed the fact that you could walk in one direction and end up at the mall and the Paknsave grocery store and if you walked the other way, you were in the downtown of Christchurch. Quite practical! Perfect to cook yourself a meal instead of eating out. And yet if you want to eat out, close to many restaurants.
