Iguazu Falls (AR) Hotels

Awesome Iguazu Falls
Iguazu – meaning big – is an almost ridiculously modest name for this magnificent natural wonder near the borders of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. The whole area is on the UNESCO World Heritage list and the falls themselves spew tonnes of water, creating a permanent mist in a tropical jungle setting. Dwarfing Niagara Falls in height and girth, this is definitely the place to come if you’re into unadulterated awesomeness. ... Read more »
Ditch the jeans and pack a waterproof camera if you go in summer, because you’re gonna get wet. From the Argentinean side,Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat) is the heart of the falls, reached via train followed by a 1km walk across the river. Bulging eyes and ringing ears are the only immediate souvenirs you get from Iguazu. But the memories live on and on…
IGUAZU FALLS’ TOP 10
10. Sendero Macuco An unpaved 7km (4.3 mile) track teaming with wildlife – and mosquitoes. Stock up on insect repellent. |
5. Avenida Jorge Schimmelpfeng Insects aren’t all that come out after dark – this stretch is home to the bar and club scene. |
9. Circuito Inferior A walk along the lower pathway to views of Salto Bossetti and Dos Hermanas. Take the ferry to Isla San Martin at the end of the path. There’s nothing inferior about this circuit! |
4. Full Moon Walk If you’ve timed your trip well, you can join this tour. On offer is a short train ride, a walk to the lookout at Devil’s Throat and – for a little extra – dinner. |
8. Circuito Superior Not-so-active visitors can get some good views along the upper rims of the falls without having to walk far. |
3. Isla San Martin Access to these two lookouts requires a boat ride, but avid birdwatchers won’t find a better reward. |
7. Esteros del Ibera A 2m-deep marshland where over 300 elaborately styled birds live alongside howler monkeys, yellow-backed anaconda, turtles and marsh deer. |
2. Iguazu Jungle Explorer Offers boat rides and off-road trips through the jungle. Keep your camera in a splash-free zone – if you can find one. |
6. Avenida Brasil A main street in Foz do Iguacu, this is the place to find eateries and coffee bars serving up tasty local fare. |
1. Garganta del Diablo Catch a free train from the Argentine side, then walk the rest of the way to view the main horseshoe falls. |

WHEN TO GO
- September to November, the temperatures are pleasantly cool and the jacarandas are blooming.
- Summer can be hot and humid. You’re probably going to get wet anyway, but this is also an expensive time to visit.
- Autumn temperatures are quite cool, and a prime time for trekking and sightseeing.
GETTING THERE
- The bus leaves Puerto Iguazu every 30 minutes for the falls.
- Taxis are inexpensive and also leave from Puerto Iguazu.
- Organised tours are obviously more expensive, but give you time to look at the park without having to worry about connections.
