We had the good luck of getting upgraded with our room. The room was clean, nice and there were big issues. The dishes didn't get washed everyday by the staff, but the rooms were always cleaned and the towels were changed everyday. We were not in the middle of the Wakiki activities, but for us, that was nice. We were close enough to go when we wanted, but far enough not to be inconvenienced by it.

The Good: Location, View, Fridge, Toaster (LOL), Sink, Misc dishes, A/C, CRT T/V, Cable, Washing machines (6th floor), Coffee maker (you buy the filters / Coffee etc. no free refills), free wifi in lobby, free books to use in lobby, small convienience store on 6th floor, free soap & shampoo daily. The Bad: Pool closed 1st week, Jacuzzi closed for week 1 & 2, lobby lights = extension cord w/ light bulbs hanging off it (like you were in a mine, LOL), some people live in building = some staff not too tourist friendly, maids old = substandard cleaning(can't bend over too well etc, but they could bend over fine to get the $2 left them daily ...LOL) , old furniture (Wicker type from 80's, they just painted over it). If you are more concerned w/ location and price, like myself, you will have little problem w/ any imperfections.

The hotel was under construction, sections of the parking garage were closed. We had to get in one elevator to another to get to our room, it was a hassle. We were not happy with the hotel , the only positive thing was the location.

The Island Colony is in a great location to get access to Waikiki and all that it has. It is the most basic of accommodations and pretty dated in most of what it has to offer. It was a good valur and some place I would likely stay again if I were by myself. It was clean, but the rooms and property in general are much older ad in need of some updates. My sister stayed in the same property and she rented one of the private condos. That was a much nicer, and more updated room with a great view. Parking was available on property, but was a bit pricey at $25/day. Since the property is split between private ownership (condos) and the hotel, it really depends on which room you get. Not a bad place at all, just a bit dated.

Great value - hotel is very close to all the shops and restaurants on Waikiki, including the International Marketplace. Hotel is clean, elevators are super fast so you never wait long and the views are great on any side of the Hotel. Staff is courteous, and the store on the 6th floor is a great addition - it has everything. The few things we didn't like are minor: parking is TIGHT! get the small car!!, we didn't get to see the pool - it's being rennovated, we missed having Internet access in the room, and the walk to the Beach was farther than we'd hoped. It is a short 3 blocks to the beach if you go straight down seaside and meander through the "pink hotel" grounds or go 3 more blocks to the public walkway by the Cheesecake Factory. Our favorite spots this trip: the Hula Grill ****YUMMMY! Waimea Falls (gorgeous!!!) Cheeseburger in Paradise - good food and fun atmosphere. Kayaking with "Twogoodkayaks", and the Paradise Cove luau. We love Oahu!!!!!!!

The hotel is clean and receptionist people are friendly and helpful to provide transportation information. You can cook in the small kitchen. Just two blocks to the world famous beach -- Waikiki beach. We lived in the 39th floor. The view is amazing, the right side is the blue pacific, left side is the canal and enjoyable golf court. In the middle, it is a Honolulu landmark -- Diamond Head Crater, which is full of curious and drove you to explore. Of course, there are some better hotels nearby, if you want to pay more.

The Hotel was a home away from home. With the kitchenette you save money cooking instead of eating out every time..

I was pleasantly surprised to get a room on the 39th floor looking over the Diamond Head mountain and the Eastern part of Waikiki area. It was the greatest view for a reanable price)))
