...because when we checked in to our room, we discovered it had not been cleaned. The beds were haphazardly made up, there was garbage in the trash cans and the toilet was clogged up with something like tobacco flakes (I will leave that up to your individual imaginations). There was also a sticky-looking substance (like hair gel) clearly visible all over one of the comforters. When we asked for a clean room, we were told none was available. There was also nobody available to clean our room that night. As the floor of the bathroom was literally puddled with dirty toilet water, we obviously could not stay the night. It would have been nice if the clerk had been a bit more proactive about the situation (finding another hotel for us to stay the night, taking charge once it was discovered that the room was dirty and/or calling Orbitz himself to cancel the reservation) but he was apologetic. All in all, I felt like hygeine wasn't a big concern nor was taking care of potential guests. Fortunately, we were only passing through for the one night and were able to book another similarly-valued hotel room close by ourselves. Otherwise, this would have been a pretty serious disaster.
