Ambassador Hotel Waikiki
4 out of 5

After staying 2 nights at the Gateway hotel, we had a pleasant surprise when we checked into the Ambassador hotel. We got an upgrade to a premium room on the 17th floor which had breath taking views of Waikiki, the ocean and the mountains. With full cooking facilities we were able to make our own breakfast and snacks. The facilities were fantastic, I was able to do washing twice while there and use the business centre free of charge. The staff were wonderful, friendly and helpful, always with a smile. We were made welcome and feel safe and comfortable at all times. Having the the coffee shop and Whalers general store attached to the hotel is wonderful. Fantastic location, we walked everywhere and caught the city bus right outside the hotel. Thank you very much for a wonderful 5 night stay.

This hotel is very low budget. There is nothing wrong with the hotel, but then there is nothing right with it either. This is a place to lay your head for a few hours only. In wall a/c units, no view, bed not too comfortable- I recommend a national chain hotel

Went for a conference, stayed 8 nights. Pros: great location, everything is nearby or easily accessible, the beach is a short walk away, great view, the room has everything you need, the staff is helpful and smiling, the rooms are very clean and smoke-free, free high-speed Internet in the room, a kitchenette with the basic stuff, an oven, a fridge, a nice balcony. Cons (insignificant, but for you to know): the equipment of the kitchenette is too basic, no condiments, the frying pan is not a non-sticky type, everything sticks to it, the countertop had a burnt edge, no hand lotion/body lotion, the towels are relatively small. It also gets pretty noisy at night, the traffic never stops, so you should consider it if you have sleep problems. Overall, Waikiki is a very expensive place, and I was very lucky in this hotel paying $ 69 per night and enjoying so many things - cleanliness, closeness to the beach and every possible shopping/dining place, swimming pool, very courteous staff, and gorgeous views.

Upon our arrival we were told that the king room that we requested was not available. The only option available was for two double beds. We weren't completely happy about that, but weren't offered any other options. They said that they would do their best to find a room with a king bed but it might take a couple of days. As we were there for a week we decided to make the best of it. The next morning they informed us that the room they had planned to put us in was subject to maintenance and that there were no rooms with king beds available. For the remainder of the week experience with the Ambassador was average. The staff was helpful with any questions we had. Housekeeping was what was to be expected. Checkout could be modernized and streamlined. A 30 min wait to checkout with only two people in line is not ideal. Overall, the pricing, parking and basic customer service would be the best points about the Ambassador. However, customer service during check in and check out leaves much to be desired.

The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. My husband and I stayed in a one bedroom suite with out two grown children Dec. 31, 2011 through Jan. 5, 2012. The room layout worked well with the two daybeds in the living area and a private bedroom with a full and twin bed. (I would have preferred a king size bed instead.) The price was worth the lack of luxury and the room was very clean and well-maintained. The hotel is in a good area and close to restaurants and shopping. We were able to park on-site for only $15/day. A bargain in a city of this size. The parking was safe and secure. We would stay here again! A great value!

If you don't mind walking a little was a very good location. Is located right in between the Waikiki strip and Ala Moana Mall. A short walk to the beach, stores and restaurants!

We normally stay at the same hotels but the package deal that was offered was too good to pass up. This hotel was almost perfect except that they don't have coffee available in your room which I'm so use to having at the other hotels. Also there's no vanity countertop, only a pedestal sink so there's no place to put your personal items. Other than that everything was terrific. I would definitely recommend this hotel & will return. Thanks for a wonderful weekend.

Walked into a room and thought we walked into the early 70's. The newest thing in the room was the small LCD TV. Glad we were only there one night.

If you're looking for a place to stay for only one or two nights, the Ambassador with its cold brick walls and stiff beds, will suffice. The location is what makes this place desirable. It's right in the middle of downtown Waikiki, within walking distance to great restaurants, shopping and beautiful beaches and resorts. But if you're looking to stay longer than two nights, I recommend paying a little extra for a better hotel.

Nothing extra but the hotel is clean and safe. Location is also ok. About 15-20 mins walking to western part of Waikiki.

The hotel was in a great location, only a few blocks from the main strip and beaches. The hotel was very oddly laid out. The beds were like sleeping on the floor. Pillows were cheap. The shower head kept falling and had to be held in the already tiny shower. We were placed in a room with 2 full beds and had asked for a larger bed- since we had dropped off our bags earlier in the morning. They were unable to change anything, and did not seem concerned.

We got the hotel for an awesome price in a package deal. The pictures online of the hotel gave us the impression that the hotel was well maintained. This was not really the case. The hotel was a little dingy, the beds were hard, and the kitchenette was a joke. The balcony was a nice size but because we checked in a little early we were given a room with no view. Also, the air conditioner leaked and it was a enough to allow a large puddle to form that prevented access. Eventually the maids took care of the problem by placing a garbage bin under the air conditioner. The Balcony was on the fourth floor and it faced a parking garage. The room does come with free internet and the TV was hi-def. We got locked out of our room because the battery in the card reader died. They had to basically break into our room to allow us in. The elevator is slow and the stairs to the ground floor are locked. We waited at least 5-10 minutes for the elevator every time. The staff was super friendly and I recommend the adjacent coffee shop.

Our family stayed 4 nights at Ambassodor. Three bed rooms with kitchen. Elevator was somewhat slow, but not that bad. friendly staff was always available. I will definately use this hotel near future. 15 dollars per day for parking if you have a rental-car and 40 dollars for security deposit when you check in.
