Alexander The Great Hotel Paphos Guest Reviews
A good, well-run hotel in a convenient location. Spacious rooms fairly well equipped, although the bed was very soft (disaster for sensitive spines!). Recommend a sea view room, as those facing the busy street would probably be noisy. The decor is dated formality: huge bowls of fake flowers abound, while chipped painted surfaces in public areas need attention. The restaurant (not coffee shop) is extremely formal in an old-fashioned way. They promote a set-price menu which is unnecessarily fussy with such passe touches as mid-course soups and sorbets, resulting in a very long-drawn out, highly formal meal. They must realise that culinarily speaking, the world has moved on from such pretentious idiocies, and also lighten up with the decor--starting with culling out and paring down certain over-decorated accessories. Good choices at Breakfast. Despite these comments, overall we enjoyed our stay (4 adults in 2 rooms) and would recommend it, but with the above comments in mind.

You must get a room directly overlooking the sea. If you have a room by the road, the double-double glazing is insufficient to keep out the noise from the road. Do not expect to use the air conditioning, it isn't switched on until 'the summer'. In a 5 star hotel, I do not expect to have to queue to cook my own toast then get cold bacon and eggs for breakfast, it just isn't good enough. ( I don't rate this as a 5 star hotel, 3 stars would be generous)

Hotel was well run and the staff very friendly. Unfortunately the weather wasn't very good when we were there, so the pool went untested. The indoor pool was very popular though! We felt the hotel was a little run down, but quite comfortable. The location is good - it's only a few minutes walk to the harbour and all the taverns and bars. However, on our morning walks from the hotel, we were regularly accosted by young women giving us scratch cards and "winning" either a bottle of wine or a free holiday at the hotel they were trying to get us to go and see (we were assured it wasn't a time share, but we were not confident about that!) Needless to say we didn't go....! On the whole very enjoyable stay. We will definately go again as we like Cyprus very much.

Excellent service, friendly and efficient staff. Best breakfast facilities I have experienced for some time. Definitely would stay there again.
