Location
The Aki Grand Hotel is a resort hotel located on the opposite shores of Miyajima Island. It can be reached in just 25 minutes through the bullet train from Hiroshima station and takes a mere 3 minute through ride through taxi from the Miyajima-guchi station.

This AKI Grand is about 10 minutes walk from Miyajimguchi Station, but there is a free hotel shuttle that goes from in front of the station. It is a little out of the way BUT it has wonderful views of the Inland Sea and Miyajima island - make sure you get a sea view room. The staff do not speak English very well - this is a hotel that caters to mostly Japanese - but were very helpful. Room was very clean with a wonderful view. There are several restaurants and a coffee shop that that has a terrace. There is also a disco and Japanese Pub and a bath house. Breakfast Buffet was included in the price and had lots of choice - be brave and try the Japanese breakfast! Strongly recommend!

The Aki Grand Hotel seems to be focused on Japanese tour groups, so as an independent traveler in the off-season it seemed to be poorly suited to my needs. To get to town/ferry it is a 20 min walk along a busy motorway. The view is okay - not great, and while there were a range of bars and restaurants (and even ferries) - some seemed to be closed or not what were discussed in the in-room documentation. There was little English spoken at the hotel. I recommend finding somewhere closer to town if you are staying in Miyajimaguchi, or possibly on Miyajima itself. In fact, in retrospect, I would have stayed in Hiroshima and taken a day trip to Miyajima.
