Loved it, loved it, loved it!! Stayed in a Castle Room and dined at the Restaurant on our first night which is a short walk away next to the 'new' hotel part of the Castle Hotel. Dining and reception staff were great amd the food was the best without a doubt. Breakfast was included in our deal and again a short walk from the castle but it had a terrific spread - much more than we could sample. Wish we could have stayed longer. Sept 2008, Australia

I had a read a lot of bad reviews about this hotel, but as we were attending a wedding here we thought we would book it as just a room to stay in. To be honest, our room wasn't bad. Some of the other wedding guests were complaining about peeling wallpaper etc but ours showed none of that. It was a large-ish room with an LCD tv and a comfy bed. The one complaint I would have is the lack of air conditioning or extractor fan in the bathroom, which made it very hot at night. Good for staying in if your there already, but it's not the luxury that the normal price would suggest.

Rooms could do with a lick of paint and the corridors needed re-wallpapering. But on the whole clean and presentable. Glass house resturant excellant and waiting staff professional. Spa facilities clean and tidy. On the whole a very pleasant place to stay.

Marketed on its country house pedigree, the accommodation and public areas are fairly standard and located in a seperate building. Food also pretty standard, and drinks expensive. Service however was good, and staff friendly. Cleaners over-anxious to press on before room vacated!

Previous reviews explained the decor was tired - they were right although the room was fine. Service was good and food was well worth the trip. Not four star but good three in my opinion.

My wife & myself stayed for a weekend and generally had a nice stay. Unfortuately during Nov & Dec the hotel is set up to cater for party nights. The 2 restuarants will be fully booked, our only option was to have room service. Most dissapointing as we were not told at the time of booking, so beware! The hotel has built it's reputation around the splendour of the castle. Now the new build spa resort has been built this has led to the castle being neglected. There were beautiful rooms on the ground floor which were not being used to there full potential. With the spa resort separate from the castle you have to walk for breakfast, bar, reception, pool, gym etc. If the castle was regenerated and more resources allocated this could be a 5 star resort worthy of charging £200+ a night for a castle room.

There was no cold water available at the bathroom sink unit due to a faulty tap and the hot water tap was running continuosly, so in effect the cold water would not turn on and the hot water would not turn off. Despite reporting this no action was taken to rectify. The door facings were damaged and shabby and need to be replaced. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

The leisure facilities are excellent. The only problem was there are no signs. There were children jumping all around unsupervised, also in the hot jacuzzi and no life saving equipment etc Apparently they are doing something about this.

i have chosen very good above but i would actually say everything was excellent. the staff are so friendly and helpful, the swimming pool is ideal. the price of drinks were a bit steep but i didn't bother that much as thr room was pre booked so i didn't have the cost of that on top of my drinks

When you drive in you are presented with a magnificent looking view of the castle, the signing for initial check in and reception could be clearer. We parked in front of the castle and then had to go about 80 metres down the road to where the reception and check in was. We stayed downstairs in the castle and the rooms were warm, large, comfortable, clean and very quiet. They provided a porta cot for the baby and a high chair was available for meal time. The staff was friendly and even though a lot of people were staying due to a jazzercise weekend there was no waiting around when you needed something and the food was lovely. The castle is being upgraded, some repainting of the main rooms, and even though the bar in the castle wasn't open the main bar near reception offered a lovely and relaxed atmosphere. A grand piano played all night and the service was great. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend this place to anyone.

The first thing I must say about this hotel is how friendly the staff were. The food in the restaurant, while slightly expensive (£32.00 for two courses plus a glass of wine) the quality was top notch. The only criticism would be, like many hotels in the UK, the accommodation does not match the standard of the public areas of the hotel. My room was tired and in need of decorating. Having said that, I belive the hotel had recently changed ownership from Radisson to private hands, so this may well be part of the new owners ongoing plans. I would certainly visit again.
