Affinia Manhattan New York
4 out of 5

We stayed at the Affinia for 4 nights pre-Christmas. The location was very convenient - close to Times Square (10 mins), Empire State Building (10 mins), Madison Square Gardens (2 mins) & Penn Station (5 mins). Other sights such as Fifth Ave, Grand Central etc were a bit further away but still within walking distance. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly, from the receptionist on check-in to the maintenance man who serviced our central heating. The hotel is elegantly decorated in an art deco style, and there is a lovely bar at the entrance which is the perfect spot for drinks to start your NY adventure. Our room was nicely refurbished, comfortable and very clean, however it was very small! Saying that, you're in NY to experience the city that never sleeps, not to stay in your hotel room so this wasn't an issue for us. And I've heard that most NY hotel rooms are small. The other downside is the traffic noise from outside (also something most NY hotels would share) however the hotel does provide earplugs which worked a treat! Overall verdict: elegant, clean, comfortable hotel with extremely friendly staff in a very convenient neighbourhood - and very well priced. We were very happy with our choice, would certainly stay here again, and would recommend it to other travellers without hesitation.

We spent 6 nights at the Affinia and were completely impressed. We loved our spacious room which gave us all somewhere to unwind after big days of sightseeing. The staff were all friendly, it was lovely and warm and made a great home away from home. The location was fantastic - we were able to walk to so many amazing places otherwise we simply walked across the street and took the subway. We would love to stay at the Affinia again.

We stayed at the Affinia Manhattan in September 2012 for my birthday trip to NYC. The location is superb - close to many of the sites incl the Empire State building and Times Sq and lots of subway stations close by. It is located directly opposite Madison Square Garden and Penn Station. The room was beautifully decorated and very spacious (a rarity in NYC so I'm told) and the bed was very very comfortable. The bathroom was small but all we needed. The staff were very helpful and super nice. Always happy to help with personal requests, print documents and advise on attractions and places to eat/drink/visit. I would recommend this hotel to anyone - it is a GEM!

we found our room to be more than expected, but thought the price could have been better. the room was exceptionally clean and tidy every day with the opportunity to cook in the kitchenette if needed. the hotel restaurant offered exceptional meals at a reasonable price

Returned to Affinia because of previous good experience and wanting a room with a kitchen/kitchenette. Also wanted to see redesigned rooms. Fantastic location by Penn Station and Maddison Square Garden. Easy walk to Times Square, Macy's, Empire State Building. Busy Easter season and hotel full so priced quite high. This time booked a two bed studio. Doorman and check-in staff welcoming. Arrived early and so I expected to wait. Room was vacated and just waiting to be cleaned. Returned 3 hrs later and given a disability room. Toilet seat very high and shower leaked onto floor when in use. Only given towels etc for 2 although booked for 3. Found someone's sock and chocolate under bed when looking for TV remote. A little disappointing this time but suspect this was due to the time of the year. I know their team can do better and have already recommended to others. Try the lamb or chicken gyros from the street venders near the hotel - delicious. Free internet at Starbucks across the street. Within the same block are a deli, Dunkin donuts, Subway, Duane Reade (supermarket) and Fresh Co (salads and soups).

A fantastic central location for exploring New York on foot. The subway was also just minutes away at Penn Station. Our room, with its two very comfortable double beds, was clean although a little on the small side. The added bonus of a coffee/tea making machine was very welcome. The hotel/location represented good value and I would certainly recommend it.

Having never been to America before and venturing into NYC was a little daunting. The stafff at Affinia Manhattan were amazing - friendly, attentive, nothing was ever too much trouble. To be met with a beautiful smile after a long flight and suffering from jetlag was so greatly appreciated. The hotel was so luxurious, in such a wonderful location and the doorman was always so friendly. My daughter has severe food allergies and to be able to cook our own meals in the kitchenette was fantastic. I will definitely be returning to this wonderful hotel and have been telling all my friends who are planning to go to New York to stay there.....just perfect

Hotel is nice and rooms are big. However the price is sometimes to high for a single night in a hotel room. My room had no kitchen. They also have no discounted parking and they charge $15.00 daily for internet.

All of the concierge was very helpful, providing maps and instructions from where to eat to getting to specific locations. The night shift also had an awesome person at the front desk helping out with anything he could! There are lots of shops just down the way some and if its not enough, you've got penn station just off to the right when you first walk out. I was making my first trip to NYC with a friend and we managed to find a good deal with this hotel, it worked out great for us, hope the same for anyone else! {Happy New Year!}

Arrived around 8pm to an upgraded minisuite. Room very nicely decorated with plenty of space, which is unusual for New York. Niles restaurant which is attached to the hotel is also an added bonus as very good food for a reasonable price. You also get 20% discount on dinner prices. Staff very friendly and attentive. Would recommend and stay there again.

Small room, but clean. Great choice of pillows. Very noisy during week day due to construction at hotel. Good thing I did not want to take a siesta! No free internet, that's a real bummer. Centrally located to most everything, great location.

had to wait nearly 2 hours to check in to room after 12 hours of travelling, not a great start. Was find until the last night when the hotel cancelled our room keys and told us we had only paid for 4 nights instead of 5. (which was not true) were told our card would be debited the extra night at a higher rate and if it was sorted the card would be credited. Went out only to find they cancelled our room keys again. Asked the next day about it and were casually told "oh yeah its fine." Thanks for messing up our holiday Affinia. On a plus side though the restaurant in the hotel is fantastic.

The hotel was in a great location -- within easy walking distance to lots of great places in the city. Staff was friendly and room was small, but clean. Would definitely consider staying here again. Great location for the price.

There were several issues during my stay at the Affinia Manhattan. The air conditioner in the bedroom was not working when I arrived. The staff fixed it. The wi-fi hook up worked very poorly and at $15 a day it was expensive for a lousy product. I asked for a late check out but they would not give it to me.

This hotel is in a great location a few minutes walking distance from MSG; this is great since this is a very central location and you can get to any place pretty easily but is also a bad location since there's FDNY and NYPD departments very very close so if you need a quiet environment (particularly to sleep) this is NOT the place for you. Staff is very friendly and hotel looks nice and clean. We got a good deal on the stay but i think there might be better options.

Stayed at The Affinia the weekend after Thanksgiving since we were there for a hockey game at Madison Square Garden. We were 2 blocks away from "Black Friday Madness" but things were calm around the hotel. Staff were very helpful and special requests handled promptly. Cleaning staf did a great job considering we were 4 peopl in a small room with alot of c.... The hotel was a bit warm but all the buildings were. I don't think they were expecting 60 degrees in Nov. All in all a good experience.

Staff friendly and helpful. This is the first hotel I have had to pay for wifi in the room. Very customer unfriendly. Room spacious and comfortable however, bathroom very small with no space for placing of toiletteries nor possibilty to hang up a towel. The rooms had obviously recently been renovated however, the workmanship left much to be desired for (tiling in the bathroom was appalling). The choice of washbasin is downright stupid. Vertical sides at right angles to the bottom. This is begging for accumulation of dirt and mold. The carpeting in the rooms was poorly laid. It all looks nice now but in 2-3 years?
