It was okay for a few days. The shared restrooms were not good. It should have been advertised that it was te YMCA and a residential living facility. That was not good at all. Very loud at night.

The staff and management were courteous and very responsive to my needs. The price was reasonable and accommodations as expected. The hotel is conveniently located downtown, near transportation, nightlife, dining, and commerce.

I was looking for an alternative to an expensive hotel near the convention center. This fit the bill. However, I can see that it would not be for everyone. The building is old, and bathrooms are shared. The YMCA is located in the basement, and I was able to use the Y for just $5 per day. The Y opened at 5:30 a.m. (weekdays), and I was able to get in a good workout before sitting all day in conference workshops. The convention center was about an eight-block walk, and I could get stop for coffee and a pastry on the way.

You can't beat the location. Close to the waterfront, Little Italy, downtown, and Gaslamp District. For the price, you cannot beat it. However it is really, really noisy. It's right next to a trolley crossing with the barricade going up and down every 10, 15 minutes with the accompanying ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. That lasts well into the night and starts early. Amtrak is right there. Broadway is a busy street. So if you're a light sleeper ..... forgetta about it! Otherwise, you cannot find a better deal.

Good location. The staff were fairly helpful and seemed to try keep the hotel and washrooms (down the hall) reasonably clean. The rooms are old, have thin walls and badly need new carpets. The beds are army-barracks type bunk beds (with clean sheets). There was very little furniture in the small room. I didn't see an air conditioner but fortunately didn't need one when there. Wouldn't return.

I was there for business and only accidentally booked this hotel, and I have to say it was the biggest mistake EVER. - personell very rude - I couldn't sleep since people were running and yelling in the hallway the entire night - the room above were moving the bed every five minutes - the toilets were clocked on the floor of the rooms I am giving this one star since the best thing were the toilets downstairs, and I am forced to give a star. i would rather not give it a rating at all . Worst experience ever!

This hostel looks ok from the outside. The inside has an elevator that is older than the building I'm pretty sure, TINY rooms, seperated bathrooms/shower and strange people lingering in the hallways. I wouldn't recommend this hostel.

I was in for San Diego Comic Con, so the room was perfect for what we needed it for: somewhere to crash for a few hours before getting back to the craziness. The place was small, but the beds were clean. Tiny TV, no closet (armoire instead), all carpets stained, bathrooms fairly clean, friendly staff. On a very loud corner for this weekend. I would suggest staying here if you are single or if not planning on being in the room very much. Perfect for comic con, but I would not stay there for a normal vacation.

I didn't expect very much from the hotel. The staff was nice and the rooms were clean but extremely noisy. The rail line is close and the walls are thin so you can hear EVERYTHING that is going on in the rooms around you.

This is certainly a no frills hotel but worth the bargain price if you only intend to stay a night (or are perhaps on a 2 day bender). The rooms are spartan but clean. There is no A/C but there is a ceiling fan. The staff is friendly and helpful. I would probably rate this a '3' but the price gets it an extra star.

I took a single room, and it was good enough for just a one night stay (I would have preferred somewhere else if I needed more nights). Sleeping with a window open can be a bit annoying (you hear all the noise from Broadway street), and the carpeting looks old and worn out. Staff was helpful though. All in all, its a good bargain if you're looking for a place that's something more like a college dorm than a true hotel.

I was in San Diego for the Consumer Cooperative Management Association Conference.I did not mind the tiny room(the bad), the front desk service was good, but the all night construction going on next door was outrageous. All night it seemed as though an invading force of jackhammers was besieging my 512 room window. I should have gotten my money back for the terrible night I spent in that miserable mini room.

Very small room for 2. However compensated by being on the waterfront, good for walking around town. Although a hostel there did not seem to be any problems regarding availability of ablutions. Very helpful front desk staff. Very nice restaurant attached.
